Carroll Shelby is as busy as ever, keeping development moving forward on future variations of his products. When he and his company aren’t busy tweaking the GT500, they are cranking out very limited edition vehicles bearing the Shelby name. What’s next? According to Tom Nelson of Nelson Racing Engines, it's a twin-turbo 1000 horsepower Mustang.
Nelson was a guest on Corolla’s podcast, where he let slip about Shelby’s upcoming car. Production will be limited to just fifty units, and twin turbos will supposedly deliver 1000 horsepower. The former Man Show host interviewed Tom Nelson, who is well-known in the racing world for his twin-turbo racing engines. Is Shelby teaming up with Nelson Racing Engines? Tom wouldn’t let that nugget slip, but Shelby certainly has their hands full already, so why not turn to somebody who knows turbochargers?
The Shelby GT500 has been subject to plenty of rumors itself. One rumor has the upcoming car getting the much sought-after aluminum block (finally), while another has the supercharger being replaced with twin turbos and making more power than the current Shelby. Shelby already has plenty of limited edition cars available on the marketplace, but they’ve never attempted a 1000 horsepower vehicle for mass consumption before - if you consider fifty such cars en masse. Still, no specifics or details are available yet, and so far Shelby is keeping mum - maybe Nelson spoke out of turn? So begins yet another round of the rumor mill.
