Glock,

Yes, that is the bare minimum for starting a gear install. A crush sleeve, gear oil, additive, seal, pinion nut and pinion bearing (rear). A complete list of material is in an article I wrote several months ago, but is not on the sight at the moment. I have a copy at work at will post it up when I return from vacation on 4Jan. If you have not completed a gear install, it is not recommended to attempt on your own. There are a few tricks of the trade to make it all go right.

how much should I expect to pay to have it done?

if you keep the same diff and just change the gears. Do you have to reshim it? If had someone in the club change his and use the same shims. I took mine all apart and reshimed it and put it back to spec with the complete rebuilt kit. All new bearings and shims. Shimming is the hardest thing. Taking everything appart and putting is back is easy if your mechanically skilled. Finding the right back lash and right pattern is tricky. Gotta have a dial indicater. I can post some pics up.

first off take cover off and drain fluid. Manly buy lossening bottom first to let it drain slowly. Once cover is off you see this

One that is off you have to take pin out. Its a small bolt on the side of the diff.
SDC11186.JPG

Once that is out, Itll look like this.
SDC11188.JPG

you can push in on the axels to take the c clips off. This is easier done with two people. One pushing in on axle and the other with a magnet to get the c clip off. You prolly have to turn it to get it to come out. One that is out you can take caps off. Be carefull when doing this and lay them to the side labeling which side is which and top and bottom. Then you can pry the diff out without scarring the shims up. Try to look for the thickest shims to pry against and just go side to side. Its tricky to get out. May have to turn it a couple times. Once that is out you can drop you drive shaft by taking 4 bolts out the taking the pinion out. Once all that is out it'll look like this.

Now you take the ring off the diff. The easiest way to get it off after all the bolts is off is by a dead blow hammer and move around in a circular motion. It'll look like this when off.
SDC11606.JPG

To put the the ring on. its easier to heat the new ring. I put mine in the over for 10 to 20 min. Then itll just slide on without any chance of it warping. Then put all the bolts in. Then put the new pinion in with new crush sleeve and all. This is very important how you put it in and torque it. Orange395w may chime in with more info. Then you put diff back in Make sure all the shims are in the same order. Its easier to get it in by leaving shims half way out, then tapping shims in after diff is in place. Then put caps back on. Then c clips back in. Then pin back in an the bolt back in the pin. Then put cover back on and fill it from bolt in the back above where the driveshaft goes. This is tricky will need a pump of some sort. Ill add more pics that may help. Please someone tell me if I left anything out. Thanks
