Well....I attended the funeral for Border Patrol Agent Robert Rosa today in El Centro. Who was killed in the line of duty last Thursday night in Campo (where I work). He was killed when he and a few agents were chasing a group of illegal aliens near the border fence. He somehow got separated from the other agents. It is still unclear what happened, but he was found by his truck with a gun shot to his head. His service pistol was missing. Agent Rosa was survived by his wife, a 2 year old son and an 11 month old daughter. The service was held in the high school auditorium in the agent's home town of El Centro. It was so packed they had to open up the gymnasium as an overflow. After the ceremony, there were over 500 cars (maybe more) from various agencies in a caravan to the cemetary. Quite impressive. I estimated there were over 3000 men and women from various local, state, and federal agencies attended including many friends and family of the agent. It always amazes me when something like this happen, how all law enforcement agencies come to attend and give their support, no matter how far they have to travel (this is the 4th funeral I attended for a law enforcement killed in the line of duty. That's 4 too many). This is one reason I chose this career. The comraderie is amazing and it doesn't matter if we know each other. When one is in need, we will find a way to help each other. It was quite sombering and a touching ceremony.
