car abreviations

so i was thinking,,,,,, where do the abreviations to our cars come from???

i mean i know that the fox is probably because its fast,

but what about sn 95??? i imagine that the 95 has somethin to do with year,,,

and then what about s197??? now on that one im completely lost!!!

i think thats all that i couldnt figure out,,,, but if any one else wants to know something related,,, leme know!!!

sn95 is the chassis code
s197 is also a chassis code

sorta like GM with their F-bodys. F was the chassis code

ROFL, that's the whole reason I lost out to Fighting Sailor on the Pypes exhaust , LOL. I had no idea my body was a S197 !!! LOL Sure is nice to learn with you all, I knew most older cars, now antique!!! Never had a Ford before we were a Chevy family /shrug. And never knew body styles only engines. Thank you for the auto lesson.

the manufacture determines that code. Sometimes they just come up with a number or name without any rhymes or reasons.

well im gonna say,,,, dont know if its true, but a guess would be this,,,,,

new edge, i would say would be because, the consept was a more defined body style with straight lines, thus the new edge,,,,

and i would say that the s197 would include the new 2010 stangs,,,, seing as how it seems like the body was just a bit re designed, it wasnt re done all together!!! kinda like the new edges are still sn95, but theyre also new edge!!

sn95 new edge is not a ford term its a consumer term to ford its all SN95 94-2004.

2005-current are s197's there are no differences in the CHASSIS
