Charger SRT8...Too heavy for their own good?

05 mustang GT w/ few bolt ons vs SRT 8 Charger{unknown mods} vs some riced out POS with baja california mexico plates

so i'm heading home tonight from a friends house, when i have this blue import with a body kit and mexico plates {i think it was a carolla or a tercel} do a fly by on me and line up with me. soooo natually i stomp his a@# 3 times.

as soon as i finished with the import an i'm slowing down a Charger goes by then slows down, so i go by him and then slow down. i noticed the SRT8 badge on the deck lid and figured i had no chance anyway. THEN THE RICER DOES A FLY-BY ON BOTH OF US! i'm not sure who took the jump first but me and the Charger blow by the import side by side till i gradually started to pull after 100mph.

i continued till about 140 mph before letting off. i'm sure the charger let off sooner cause i was up by 10-11 cars. in the end i would say i won by 3-4 lengths.

BUT when we were finished i saw that ricer trying to race another s197. when will they learn?

BTW...its always fun to beat someone when i still have dealership tags on

I have the SRT8 Magnum. it's a heavy but it's faster then my 08 GT Mustang. And pulls hard on the top end. I think the guy let off sooner then you know

i know he let off sooner, but i pulled from him at the get go..not by much till i got about 3-4 lengths then he fell back quick

dunno bout the charger, but the CHALLENGER is one heavy heffer...

The challenger is not a dog by any means though. I raced one and he had CAI, tune, 3 inch exhaust with cut outs. It is pretty fast for being a heffer

What hurts the Charger is not so much weight but gearing. In auto I believe the have 3.06 gears. In actuality they have a better weight to power ratio than a stock Mustang GT. There power/weight ratio is around 9.6 to 1 where a stock S197 is around 11.5 to 1.

Mustang curb weight: 3532 Final drive gear ratio 3:55
SRT8 curb weight : 4091 Final drive gear ration 3:06

SRT 8 not only weighs more, gear ratio doesn't do it much justice for having over 400 ft lb torque and over 420 hp.

A good friend of mine has an SRT8 Magnum and that thing sticks you to the seat on launches, but quickly looses its momentum at higher speeds. Still quite fast, but I can see how a stang can keep up or outperform with the right combo of driver skill and vehicle mods

Don't get me wrong. it's fat. The SRT8 is limited at 155 and the 05 GT top speed is 138 to 140. I'm sure it must of took you 3 mile to hit 140 mph. I know I have both cars. 100 to a 120 the SRT8 is faster hands down. I think you might have ran a 5.7 HIMI with SRT8 badges on it. like a V6 mustang with a V8 rear bumper.

I would have to call the B.S. flag on that post. JJ89GT are you telling me your Stang will not go over 140 and it take 3 miles for you to build up the speed? Maybe you have a 6 cyl with gt bumper. I had mine well over 140 with 600 miles on the car. I know that it would def take less then 3 miles to reach 140. With just a CAI and can tune i have never got beat at track by a SRT8. My car has bolt on but it is at 90mph in 1/8th of a mile I know it wouldnt take 3 miles to reach 140 even in a stock gt. If I read post wrong just corect me.

my SIXER had a GT rear bumper and it woulda destoyed the SRT8. my V6 was wayyyy faster than my new GT. the GT gets up to 140 in less than a 3 mile stretch for sure

Well I have both. You must have the better of the bolt on's. I'm saying is that there's no way you pulled 4 to 5 car on the top end. Unless the guy didn't know how to drive the thing.

I'm sure you do beat them at the 1/8 mile with your nitrous on. Just like you beat GT500's.

Anyway's this is a mustang fourm why am I arguing. "Good kill"

Well...I just rolled an srt8 charger in my mach. He was putting inches on me so he won...barely. Good tune and I bet I would be dead even with him through three gears. Had it not been for the weight and my 4.10 gears I would have been killed easy. He has over 100 more HP than me. -Shane
