The business of hot rodding is as competitive as full contact sports - with many award and rod shows taking place at venues across the country. Proud builders lug their expensive hobbies and habits from coast to coast, chasing elusive awards like the Ridler, Boise, and America’s Most Beautiful Roadster.
According to the eBay auction though, only one car has ever achieved this Triple Crown of champions; the Ford .32 Revolver built by Dave Emery. It is being auctioned off by Best of Show Automotive.
That’s right, not even big name builders like Chip Foose or Boyd Coddington has ever won all three awards with the same car. But Dave Emery did, 12 years ago with the .32 Revolver, which is actually based on a Darrell Zip “Zipper” Highboy. Emery added an all-new aluminum and fiberglass front clip, as well as a chopped window from a Volkswagen Beetle.
The suspension comes from an ’85 Corvette. The engine is a small-block Chevy backed by a TH-350 transmission (with just 700 miles), and the whole car is a lesson in attention to detail. Even the engine is a work of art.
Attention was paid to every detail, like the rear tail lights being molded into the body. The welds are seamless and invisible throughout the car. The dashboard alone took 450 hours to design and build. The shaved doors are operated by an electronic key fob, as is the engine. For such a simple looking car, the details are immense and almost overwhelming. And for the scant price of $169,000 - it can sit in your garage, forever collecting value (and dust).
