not something that'll make my mach blazingly faster, but hey... it's only $20 and a simple mod.

it's the shaker air diverter. for anyone that doesn't know, the shaker on the mach is 12 inches in length. the air diverter basically cuts that in half, getting cooler air into the intake more effectively. and we all know that a cooler running car is theoretically a faster running one.

here's someone testing the iat with the air diverter from the m1r:

So after reading the affects of rich1's air diverter on the dyno and everyone no quite sure if it would work at all, i decided to test it myself...I took two tests one without the diverter and one with it in, and also used the Data logging capabilities of a diablo tuner. The results are based off looking at the IAT temperature as well as mph.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Car is modified with 1inch shaker extension and JLT RAI*

Test 1: without the Diverter

Temperature outside: 71 degrees

IAT @ Start: 110 F

IAT @ 45mph: 88 F

IAT @ 60mph: 74 F

IAT @ Idol: 88 F

Total Drive Time: 15min

Thats a difference of 22 degrees @ 45 mph, 36 degrees @ 60mph, and 22 degrees difference from the initial start.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Test 2: with the Diverter

Temperature outside: 66 F

IAT @ Start: 102 F

IAT @ 45mph: 66 F

IAT @ 60mph: 68 F

IAT @ Idol: 82 F

Total Drive Time: 15min

Thats a difference of 36 degrees @ 45 mph, 34 degrees @ 60mph, and 20 degrees difference from the initial start.

So as you can see indeed more air is being thrown into the intake so the fact that that much hp gain could be made isnt out of the question..The real test though would be to test it out on a stock intake and no extension. I indeed felt that my car had more power not much but a tad bit more. I have to say that this mod is a great one and you get colder air for less then 10 bucks.

haven't received mine yet, as i just sent the payment today... but i will have pics and maybe even write an article myself once i get it. :)

next mod? maybe a rsd to shave some weight.

It looks so simple. I could probably make one at work lol.

prob could... but i personally lack the tools. and $20 is like two meals at mickey d's that i won't get to have. i was thinking of getting someone to make one for me (know a local fabricator), but paying them for the time to do the r&d, getting the material, etc. would cost more than the $20 the original dude was asking.

every little bit helps though and this little mod may swing my time by the hair i need to get a new personal record.

also considering an rsd. central valley has the wicked stangs taxi, so i shouldn't have to worry bout bringing more than one other person to the track (camera person). maybe even take out the passenger seat on track days as well if i don't have a camera person.

Nice change in temperature. Most racers would kill to drop temps by 6 to 8 degrees F. Your right, for the $20 it cost you, nobody would make it for that price. Good Find.

Jay should have just had me make it, it would have taken me 5 min (includes polishing time)

i know it looks like a 5 min job, but measuring, cutting, and making sure everything fits right... could take longer than 5 mins. plus countless people, including dustin, have taken these down the track and made sure it doesn't come loose and mess anything up.

having one of these to trace and copy, that would take 5 mins. but to reproduce one from scratch and make it work exactly the same? we could make something that looks like it... prob. sits in the shaker the same way... but in reality, it may not be as snug or secure at higher speeds, and next thing i know i basically have a blade heading towards my intake...

heck, you said my exhaust would be a 2 hour TOPS job and we could do it in your driveway... 4 hours later at the hobby shop and we're all saying "THANK GOD WE DIDN'T DO THIS IN A DRIVEWAY!"....

lmao!, naw trust me that would be easy to do from scratch, and we had no idea that idiot that put your original exhaust back on had f*cked it up that bad!

i think a fender mount filter would have made colder IAT but thats just be.. cool buy

my lincoln with the filter in the bumper breaths ambient air temp.. lats winter it would get as cold as 42 degrees as long as the car was moving

i was wrong about this mod... it's not a go-fast... it's a gas saver. romping on it on the way to famoso last time, i barely used a 1/4 tank of gas. usually i'm past the 1/4 tank (on a full tank) by the time i get there.

as for the placement of the intake, it's subjective. at the track, i take out my headlight and cold air is right there. but if it's cold air all the time, then yeah... fender mount would be better as it'd never be in the heat of the engine bay ever.
