While that looks intimidating and all you can hit up www.diyautotune.com and have them do the hardware mods for what you need.
To do this conversion its easiest to use a Edis8 from a 90-97 4.6 modular ( for those who have a 96-97 your in luck, you have one )
I am currently writing the pinouts on the diagrams from an Haynes manual, not the best but for what its worth it currently works and it hasn't steered me incorrectly just yet.
The wiring is Very easy. I'm eventually going to be installing this ECU into my car, as Tuning is capable of being done on the fly, the only reason the ecu needs to be reset is if you change some of the constants. These ecu's have been used to power 1000+ hp ls1's, 4g63's, Suby's and many hondas toyotas and for Carby to EFI conversions.
This IS the route i will be taking. I am not going to deal with the stock ecu and its unknowns any more, no longer will i deal with its reverse engineered software from different companies.
the ecu in its Unassymbled form is 140 bucks, + the price of a soldering iron and time.
I personaly will be having mine built for me by DiYAutotune.com and having the MSnS-Extra firmware installed which allows the v2.2 ms1 board full timing control via software mods instead of upgrading to the ms2 processor ( we dont have an IAC stepper motor so its uneeded )
Requirements for running one of these ecu's on our car, a laptop with some type of DB9 port ( USB version or one onboard the pc ), windows, linux or Mac OSX
there are multiple ways of tuning using the Megasquirt ecu such as using Megatune on Windows or via Linux under a windows emulator called "winE".
I personally will be using TunerStudio as it has a guage interface that i may end up installing a Carputer with a 8 inch Liliput screen and replacing my entire guage facia with it. my guage face would look like this
