MT ET Streets vs MT ET Street Radials Test

On October 18th @ Barona, I will be doing a tire test. I have been told by a few different professionals that the ET Street radials will be a faster tire due to the stiffer sidewalls which equal less tire distortion down the track. Some have actually said that you will see a HP loss on the dyno as well and they have seen as much as a 80hp increase with a simple tire swap. Of course this was on a 900hp car, but the evidence is there.

The pros and cons have been listed in this article http://www.wickedstangs.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10895&highlight=mickey+thompson and as you can see it states that .08-.12 tenths drop in ET is possible.

I will first make a couple passes with my ET streets and log times. I'll then go into the pits and swap tires and come back out and make a couple runs on the ET Street radials. We'll compare times and have some live data collected. This should prove helpful for anyone who is buying tires in the future.

Big Thanks to James for allowing this test to happen. :shift:

It will be interesting to see, so thank you for doing it.

Problem is, heat on the track surface and outside temps play a big role in any testing. Is Barona going to let you use the track? Because on a test and tune night, with the waits, the track could be completely different on your runs.

I think you will run faster on the radials. It may not be reflected as much in the 1/8 mile as it would in 1/4 mile.

Are you going to run your bios ply front tires with the radials?

That MT article was def a sales brochure for MT. You should also consider talking to the guys over at M&H tire. Race tires is all the make and specialize in Mustangs. And they like to talk.

As previously mentioned I've also heard this from a couple different professionals now. Dave @ Team Z Motorsports is a suspension guru and he says "if you want to run faster get the MT ET Street radials". I also heard this from Adam @ S.T. Motorsports who also mentioned that my 381hp is decieving because the bias ply tires can rob power on the dyno as well.

Your probably right though about the track conditions. We'll see what happens.

I was thinking of going friday night. Sunday seems to be a pretty full schedule and I didn't think there was going to be much time for T&T.

Haven't decided yet. Not that me going or not makes much difference. I am for sure going to one or the other. Just got lots of parts installed which should help.

Um...yeah...about that......... I would like to get her out there. I think she could do pretty good.

take her to the Q a few times and run with in the passenger seat, not sure if barona does it but could get her to warm up to racing...

I may not be doing this test after all. At least not this sunday. I got a little ahead of myself and realized I'm still tuning for max power and now I'm installing some new suspension that may need tweaking. Sorry guys, but first things first. Number 1 priority is to get this car dialed in.

Hopefully I can do this at a later date. Once again thanks to James for offering up the tires for the test.

looks like I am going to be there Sunday. Hopefully the T&T waits won't be to bad. Also hoping Temp is reasonable that day. We will see.
