my 3rd gear grinds

i had this problem for a while already,where my 3rd gear grinds.Ive never had it checked.I know is not the clutch because i installed a new one.Anybody have any idea what it might be?i'm hoping its not the tranny...More detailed...it takes a while before entering on 3rd,it grinds for a few seconds before taking it,and it's always in the same gearwhere i have this problem.... heeelp..lol

Hate to give you the bad news, but the is usually a synchro in the tranny if it's in one gear. Usually does not require a complete overhaul, just the soft parts in the tranny. If you wait to long, you'll chew up the gear and the hard parts are quite expensive.

Not really much to check. The syncro's for third gear are shot. Happens all the time in those transmissions. Probably gonna be around 3 bills if you take the tranny out.

youre talking just labor right? or all together(approx.)

Well crap....I forgot the normally charge around 100 an hour in cali. I am not sure man. I would call a reputable shop and ask them how much to replace you synchros.

If you can take it out and then take it to a tranny shop, youll save a lot of money.
