Names and Personal Information in Threads

A member, Shane, posted a letter from the USS COMSTOCK CMC to the senior enlisted in the Navy's fleet. A sailor committed suicide and the words of caution and involvement with our military members was a good read. However, the CMC's and ship's information was included in the post. As moderators, we need to catch this information and edit it out of the post. If personal information is posted by the originator, that is fine. But, any personal information that does not belong to the originator must be removed. I'm not certain if the fire is out on this one, keeping fingers crossed.

Ok. Thanks for the heads up. Didn't even think about that when reading it. May be a good idea to go back and edit out the names. May be too late, but better late then never.

Lol I do agree with Shane though. All info that was posted can be found on the ships home page. I seen the info but thought nothing of it. I hope Shane called him and tried to explain that he as a senior Sailor was only trying to help the cause and being that this club is mainly Military or prior service folks that no criminal intent was present in what he did. I applaud him for trying to get the word out and will remove info if it happens again. If this makes the CMC feel any better, I held about a ten minute suicide prevention brief with all my Marines yesterday explaining what to look for, what to do, and that suicide is never the way to fix any situation. I believe that is what Shane was going for by posting the thread.

so what exactly did this CMC post? Was he attacking Shane? And yes the info, Shane posted did help most the senior enlisted on to ask question of our troops to see if they are ok...

He basically came on here and put Shane on full blast for putting his personal phone and e-mail addy out there to the public. He wanted him to call him for an ass chewin from what it seems. He also didnt seem to like our oppinions of the young sailor taking his own life.

Does he know Shane? How did Shane get it? I didn't see anything wrong with the email, except he did leave his name and info on there...

Not sure but Shane said he didnt know the guy. Maybe he is one of the Suicide Prevention counselors and has access to the info..........We have them too but ours are Sgt's.

I think the problem is the ship's info and the CMC name was on the thread. Looks like it was directly paste from the original email. And yes the CMC was not happy to see the response posted about the sailor in regarding his suicide. The CMC logged on here last night and posted a response to that thread.

The CMC is logged in as cindricks2

Yeah, the name of the ship was in the message and the CMC name and phone number and ship's name was in the signature, too.
On the profile it said he had a mustang gt, so I'm thinking he signed on and saw that thread. Could be just a coincidence.
