As with every racing off-season, we are eager to hear new announcements in regards to what will take place in the 2010 racing season and the NHRA has enlightened us with some big news. The NHRA with the assistance of Stephen Pullin and Jack Schaeffer (Producers of the television show “Pinks”) have announced their agreement to produce media properties – which will consist of unique television programs, as well as new events and racing programs that will reach beyond what the NHRA currently offers.

Their first endeavor is entitled “NHRA Unleashed” which currently consists of a 4-race schedule. While we won’t see any flame-breathing, nitro-methane drinking top fuel rails at any of these events, what we will see is some of the best door-slammer racers from all across the country flocking to these events to partake in many classes from Outlaw 10.5 to 13-second street cars. All these races will be conducted in a heads-up style with no index racing here. All classes will be competing for the legendary Wally trophy. A few exhibition style runs are believed to also be in the works for these events. The current NHRA Unleashed schedule is listed as:

• June 11-13: Atlanta Dragway, Atlanta
• Aug. 6-8: O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis, Indianapolis
• Sept. 10-12: National Trail Raceway, Hebron, Ohio
• Nov. 5-7: Gainesville Raceway, Gainesville

Not only will there be exciting action on the track, there will also be everything from swap-meets, car shows, and even an autocross. The NHRA plans to announce more exciting details later in the month as we near closer to the also highly-anticipated Winternationals. What will truly drive these events are the grass-roots racers which are finally getting the widespread recognition they deserve. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new program.
