Over at The Bullet, forum member 5.0joe79 posted an image of a notchback Mustang that was turned into Echelon Ford as part of the Cash for Clunkers program. According to 5.0joe’s post, it was supercharged 5-liter notchback. We know Mustang enthusiasts that would drive cross-country to pick up a notchback, as the Fox-body makes a great project Mustang due to their light weight and simple design.
Enthusiasts everywhere are cringing at the thought of destroying all those mid-80’s and 1990 sports cars and their V8 engine parts. The government has required all clunker turn-ins to have the engines disabled and crushed before the dealer will be reimbursed the $3.500.00 to $4,500.00.

One benefit of the Cash for Clunkers program is the upturn in business for towing companies and automotive recyclers. We’ve even read a report in AdAge that American’s did not grasp the fuel-efficient purchase push and are buying full size pick-up trucks with their cash.

Through August 12th, dealers had submitted 316,189 vehicle voucher requests to the government with a payout value of $1.33 billion.

my car was 5 minutes from it today, only thing that stopped me was the contingency that requires you have owned it 1 whole year.

The bodies will soon be in the junkyard....they only destroy the engines. Keep your eyes peeled and spend some time at the local junkyards, all the suspension parts will still be there. It's actually a great time for mustang enthusiasts to rebuild their cars with all the spare parts coming available.
