ported 2v Heads? need opinions

Alright Boys and girls,
I have been in a bit of debate with my self, i have a few options at my disposal, i want to add a set of ported heads to my new short block, the thing is i want to take the cheapest route and still bring in good performance, i talked to Emerson at Last call racing and he told me that he makes just over 500 to the wheels on his 96 GT running 15lbs if boost with stage 2 ported heads, the other stipulation is i want to avoid keeping the car down as long as posible before actually tearing it down, that means no more then 3-4 days total down time for my ride, right now until i get a truck or another form of transportation, it's my DD. I have been considering buying a set of stock PI heads and sending them off to be ported and then assembleing them and sticking then on the shot block before changing engines and then when I pull the engine i could sell old PI heads and basicly get my money back for them, OR i could buy a set of stage two patriot heads which run about 1100 or so, i have kind of got a price range for porting which will range from 600-800 for a stage 2 or 3.... what would guys do? And if you guys know someone that can port heads for a great price let me know....

i know how you feel, thats why i did my own clean up job on my heads. I just deburred them myself and cleaned them up. Id say at least port them while they're out if you can. Buy a cheap set, the sell yours to save down time. Are you getting cams too?

Be patient. Wait and get the TFS heads. There is no rush! Your car is running good and you are adding suspension to the mix for the time being. 3-4 days is not very realistic for the down time. **** happens and **** comes up all the time that we either forget or overlook.

You will be soooo much happier with the TFS heads. Get the engine and put it on a stand. Bag it and start saving for the heads. Put some stuff up for sale to off set the price of the heads. Don't you still have a cowl hood to sell??

just a few options to consider,,,,

i know that tod was talkin about a place closer to la that does a one for one trade,,,, you give him your heads and he gives you a set of already ported heads so you dont have any down time!! i dont know where he is, but if i remember correctly the prices were spot on!!

then theres alwayse mmr,,,, i beleive, not 100% but im prty sure they do the same deal,,, but in a diff sort of way!! i think they sell you a set of ported heads with the core charge, kinda deal,,, and then when you get yours off they give yout your money back!! which would be a bad ass deal!!

ther than that, i have to say im with boby on this one,,, dont rush man!! bad things end up happening when you rush,,,,,,, look at what happened with gufis set up so far!! if he would have taken the time to look at those bolts and get more things set up right before his install could be going alot more smoothly!!! he wouldnt need to get that bolt machined out.. but you do have a one up on him!! you actually have some tools to do the project!! llolololololololol,ol9ololoololololol!!!

ears he's looking to assym the heads on a stand and drop in a whole motor

but honestly. if i was doing this all man... i'd go with the trick flows those heads are so upgraded compared to the other 2v heads that i wouldn't even waste my time. especially after my little fiasco. i could have just removed the damn cam tower and replaced it or something ya know?

something to think about.

The untouched 2v TFS heads flow about the same or more than the 32v "B" heads and they will have a better power curve.

i hope to get the trickflow heads when the price cools down on them a bit, or i can find a set used

That's not going to happen. You are paying for the unmatched quality and time spent on developing these heads. The TFS twisted wedge heads for pushrod engines are more expensive now than they were 5 years ago. The only way you will get these cheaper is if you buy them used. Since they are relatively frsh on the market there is a fat chance of finding a used set.

TFS FTW!!!
