Restoring power

Ok I am looking at giving the car a nice tune-up. Some of the things needed that I know of are
1. Spark Plugs
2. Spark Plug Wires
3. Distributor
4. Serpentine belt
5. Coolant
6. Oil
7. Oil Filter

Well let me start by saying I have a 89 mustang 5.0 with headers, and intake, and exhaust with probably high milage (gauge cluster was changed I think). I know the guy drove it pretty hard while he was in North Carolina and took it to the track as well. I took it today and did a compression test and it was pretty consistent so I know its time to restore it from this point.

I want something to restore the power at this point with future plans being a camshaft and the common power adders lol. So what additives should I get as well? I will be using this car for occasional track visits and sporadic street driving. I want to get some things that are good for this.

Also price is and is not that much of an issue. I dont want to spend a ton of money on a part that is built for a 500+ horse power car. I want it for my application. I dont want the cheap stuff either if it is not going to last. I want to get it and be happy with it for a while.

Can you guys recommend some things to me please and what brands. Also what is a good website to order these parts from?

Thanks
Roger

I was asking for recommendations on distributor, and Wires suited for my needs I have the oil suited for my needs. Especially the oil. I have read good things about royal purple but have yet to try it.

They have those things too. Not just racing parts.

I use Royal Purple for my car and Royal Purple gear oil when i did my gear change. I have no complaint and car run pretty smooth and have no issues. I say worth the money.

If your dizzy is good do not change it. You can't beat the ford piece. If you are having issues you could buy a new TFI module, but don't buy an MSD for some reason those go bad. I've known 2 people who have had them go bad myself included.

You need to be more specific on what you want for us to make recommendations. What are you looking to do? Increase power? Bump the timing up to 12* and see how it runs.

RP is the only thing I put in the Cobra. Also replace your fuel filter when doing your upkeep. Try posting t his up on SVTPerformance because of the much bigger crowd.-Shane

Right now I am looking to nurse this motor back to health. by the looks of it it has not had a tune up in a while. When I was doing the compression test today at the hobby shop I could tell. So I figured I would give it some new parts.

I am not trying to make any power off these parts I just wanted to buy quality parts just like your suggestion about the MSD. I am unsure on the brands of the products. I want something that last and will pay a few more dollars for it but I did not want to spend a few more dollars for parts that are not needed or I couldnt use to their full potential.
