t5 Rebuild?

Today I lost 1st 2nd 3rd and 5th while slowly accelerating on the freeway in 5th. What a horrible way to cure a hangover. Anyway how hard is it to rebuild a T5? I think I can do it without any problems but I've never rebuilt a tranny. Any advice on what parts I should use or where to get them for a good price?

I just pm'd him over there but if I can rebuild it for cheap I might just do it myself but I am not sure what broke yet and if its worth it. I am seriously considering getting a loan and buying a new T-56 for the car. I might not do that but that is my number one choice and then I'll rebuild this and try to sell it or just sell it the way it is. I REALLY want a t-56. A rebuilt t-5 definitely won't hold forever so its kinda pointless to even rebuild it.

bw t5 parts are super cheap. just not easy to find any one that rebuilds them any more. the guts should be interchangable from the fbody t5 that comes in their v6's. i'm trying to find a t-56 also but at the same time untill i have around 300 hp the whole 6th gear would dog the engine unless i tossed 3.73's or 4.10's in the rear.

with my 347 and 3.73's I have the power to use 6th and benefit a lot when I drive to Wisconsin once or twice a year. Just wish they were not so expensive.

I just got my T5 back two days ago from getting rebuilt in Riverside CA. It would have been cheaper to just buy another one already completed, but this way I'm assured everything has been gone through and redone.

I don't remember the name of the shop and don't know how much it was. My engine builder handled that and he will invoice me later, but from what he told me, this guy has been building drag and off-road race trannies for decades.

I'll ask how much he would charge since I have some kind of "hook up" through my engine builder.

I have to disagree with that statement.. I had mine rebuilt with a couple of performance parts and it has lasted forever, I just saw the guys I sold it to at this past Knotts show and he races his car and his says he is still not having any issues with his tranny I sold him about 5-6 years ago.

Those Borg Warner T5's can take a good beating. Thats why I chose to keep mine when I could have easily gone another route. if I do need a Tremec, my 93 has one I can just swap

How much power is this trans subjected to?

I don't think it will last when I put a 351 stroker in it sometime next year also. That is a big concern of mine. I am just about spending a bunch of money now and then breaking it again in a year or two.

I guess its a good thing I have a spare tranny in my closet. I'm probably the only person on base with a transmission on a shelf in the barracks.
