<div>In 1969, after years of success running the Mercury Cougar Tran-Am program, Ford came calling on Bud Moore and his Bud Moore Engineering team to campaign a pair of Boss 302 Mustangs. Moore put his Spartanburg, South Carolina based NASCAR program on hold and placed all his efforts into the Mustang Trans-Am effort. <br />

Moore had two new Mustang updates that looked to work in his favor. The old Mustang’s notchback body wasn't as streamlined as the newer Camaro, Javelin or Barracuda - so Ford introduced a new Mustang fastback body and a new engine. The 1969 Mustang body was completely redesigned to make the car more aerodynamic, but the shape of the body was secondary to the new Boss 302 under the hood.<br />

Bud Moore welcome the new parts and the challenge to develop and build the famous red, white, and black Mustangs for Parnelli Jones (No. 15) and George Follmer (No. 16). Carroll Shelby was again given the nod to develop Ford’s other Trans-Am effort with Horst Kwech and Peter Revson at the wheel.<br />

In 1969, Ford's four-car Trans-Am assault look promising at the start as the team jumped into an early championship lead by winning four of the first five races. But Penske Racing’s engineering efforts and problems with the Firestone tires prevented the Mustangs from winning another race during the second half of the season. Ford eventually lost the championship by 14 points to Roger Penske's Sunoco sponsored Camaro driven by Mark Donahue.</div>
