A U.S. Navy helicopter with five people aboard crashed into the Pacific Ocean south of San Diego, the Coast Guard said Wednesday.
The HH60 Seahawk helicopter crashed late Tuesday, 13 miles (21 kilometers) south of San Diego, near the Coronado Islands, said Coast Guard Petty Officer Henry Dunphy.
Dunphy said Coast Guard helicopters, boats and cutters, as well as San Diego harbor police were scouring the area for survivors and wreckage.
"We are searching right now, searches continue throughout the morning. We are just hoping for the best and we will search as long as we can," he told Agence France Presse (AFP).
Dunphy said the helicopter had taken off from the USS Nimitz, a U.S. aircraft carrier.
The U.S. Navy would not immediately comment on the crash.
Hope that was none of us and feel bad for the families...
