4 U.S. Citizens Found Strangled in Mexzican Border City

The bodies of four U.S. citizens were found strangled, beaten and stabbed in a van in this border city, two days after they reportedly left their Southern California homes for a night at the Mexzican clubs, U.S. officials said Thursday.

The victims, ages 19 to 23 years old, were found tied up on Saturday, but their deaths were not reported earlier because they were under investigation, said Fermin Gomez, an assistant state prosecutor in Baja California.

U.S. consular officials in Tijuana said the victims - two men and two women from the San Diego and Chula Vista areas - were U.S. citizens. The state attorney general's office in Baja, Calif., said one of the women was Mexzican.

Their deaths are the latest in a string of violence in Tijuana that authorities blame on a bloody turf war between drug cartels.

"I just don't think kids should be going to Tijuana right now," Chula Vista police Lt. Scott Arsenault told the San Diego Union-Tribune. "They ran into the wrong people, obviously."

Bernard Gonzales, a spokesman for the Chula Vista Police Department, said a friend told the women's parents they were headed to nightclubs in Tijuana on Thursday night. They were reported missing the next day when they did not answer their cell phones.

I was in a meeting yesterday with the Mezican Attorney General for the state of Baja California and he said one of the four young men had Cocaine in his system and that these four possibly weren't all as innocent as the media would have you believe. Whether that is true or propaganda, I don't know, but it appeared to me that he was trying to say it was safe for tourists to visit Tijuana and that you'll only have problems (like getting murdered) if you're in with the wrong crowd.

Yeah, right!

What is also sad is that the general public judge Mexico by what happens in TJ. Border towns are always awful. I got no use for TJ, I don't go there. If I ever get the chance to go see my relatives in Mexico I ain't even stoping in TJ for gas.

The info I received was one or both males had family in the pen and they snitched on the drug dealers.. The killings were reprisal for snitching.

My grandfather has rental property in Rosarito. He can't travel anymore since he recently had a pacemaker installed so I make that landlord trek 2-3 times a month.

I must say that I don't see anything different from 2, 3, 5 or 10 years ago as far as tourist safety is concerned.

I always go alone and walk around alone. I never feel threatened or in danger. The only intimidating part is seeing all the "federales" with weapons at checkpoints. One in Rosarito main strip and one in TJ.

It's a war between drug gangs. Not aimed towards tourists. Sad part is that anyone, not just tourists can get caught in the cross fire. Those Americans that have been victims recently had to have been involved in some way. They just don't go around doing random drive-bys or beheadings.

Tom, I agree with you. This is what I posted earlier. Once they start shooting and killing, if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time or with the wrong person.......they will kill you too.

Yes, have to be real careful nowaday. Those girls were most likely with the wrong people at the wrong time and paid for it with their lives.

You're right Danny. I heard of stories where innocent people were simply having dinner in the same place as drug lords. Rivals come in to kill thier targets and elimiinate the innocent to ensure there are no witnesses
