So my coworker has a 89 5.0 vert 5 speed. Last week his clutch cable snapped. He replaced the cable. Now he is having issues with accelerating and it slipping. only from low end though. Highway speed there is no slippng.

Does the cable need adjusted or does he need a new clutch?

I dont know enough about it to help. I would think adjusting the cable first then if it still happened get a new clutch.

If it is a clutch issue, where should he take it to have it replaced. He doesnt want to work on it and wants a shop to do it. Recommendations?

Thanks guys.

Since he just replaced the cable, I would think he needs to try and adjust it first. If the clutch quadrant is stock: To adjust the clutch cable, have him pull up on the clutch pedal then push it down with his foot. He should do this a couple of times until the clutch pedal engages where he likes it. Normally, if the clutch is bad, it should slip any time he gets into it really hard in any gear, expcept maybe fifth.

As for a shop...pick one, everyone of them will rip him off. The job is simple and they'll charge him an arm and a leg.

I think he has the cable adjusted too tight. It is just like pushing the clutch slightly and flooring it. If his stock adjuster was all the way out which I am willing to bet then by installing a new cable and not resetting the pedal he has too much pressure on the cable which is in fact engaging the clutch. It will wear his clutch out in no time if he doesnt get it fixed asap.
