all im trying to do is replace my front pads, haha, the bolt for the caliper is completly stripped, i have no idea how to get it off, i tried drilling ant and using an extractor, but its in there so tight the extractor broke without even moving the bolt, any suggestions?

wow, just keep drill it in the center with a small bit. Until it comes out or get a better extractor tool..

If the extractor broke, drill into that one too to get it out, drill out a bigger hole and use a bigger extractor. Spray some WD-40 or PB Blaster (works better for me) to soak into the thread for a few minutes. Also try smacking the head of the bolt with a hammer after spraying it. Not too hard so as to not create more damage. Just enough to help jolt the threads loose.

well if the extractor broke then you are in a world of **** unless you have a 300.00 solid carbide drill bit laying around. another way to get out a broken stud is to take a prick punch and start at 12 oclock at a 45 and with a hammer make an indention on the edge aiming towards the center of the bolt. then angle the top of the punch to the right and start tapping the punch with the hammer backing out the seized bolt. also vise grips could work if applied with enough grip, then smack it with a hammer, they will more than likely fly off but may shock it enough to loosen up. let me just say after these methods you will have to replace the bolt........but before you break the pocket just remember the saying righty tighty lefty loosey.

and sometimes if you can drill all the way thru, it will relieve enough pressure to where you can whackit with a hammer and just back it out witrh a wrench or vise grips. now this is important.......IF THE DRILL STOPS DRILLING AND IT DOESNT SEEM TO BE DRILLING ANYMORE, STOP!!!! THE DRILL IS DULL AND YOU ARE WORK HARDENING THE BOLT. THUS MAKING IT HARDER TO REMOVE.......every bolt is different to remove, ive had easy ones that take 2 minutes and some that takes a day or two, good luck, oh and patients is a virtue.....dont loose it, some of those will make you want to throw a hammer at your mom.

i think id like to do that any way (throwing a hammer at my madre),,, no bolt required,,,, just throwing it out there,,, i had a motor mount bolt snap in my new block and they charged me 150 to get it out,,, it would have bn much more if the motor were in the car,,, so i guess what im trying to say is that there are places out there that will get it out for you, but i would suggest you exhaust all your means before turning down this road. it is very costly!!! just tryin to help man,,, good luck

thx, btw the drill i had to use dosent have a reverse gear ha, so i had to put the extractor in and grip it with vice grips and hit it with a hammer haha. am i able to even take the whole caliper off without removing the pads? seem like it would be eaisier

yes you have to. the brake pads go in from the inside of the caliper. i hope you have a big pair of pliers or a piston compressor to push the piston back in on the caliper. but once you get the caliper off take the back of a screw driver and pop the old brake pads out. if you dont have a piston compressor leave the old brake pad on the piston side and use a c clamp or a big pair of channel locks to push it back in. i wouldnt put an extractor in a drill anyway.....bad idea. or another alternative is go out and buy a left handed drill bit....they sell them at sears i ithink, and borrow a drill that goes in reverse and if it catches it might just back the bolt out while it is drilling thru the bolt.

well any news on the bolt??? if there is room you might be able to drill it from the other side....i dont think there is room but just a thought.

One more trick that works: Once you spray the PB Blaster on one side, put some heat to the other side. This will draw the fluid into the bolt and losen it even more. DO NOT CATCH THE CAR ON FIRE!!!!
