California SMOG legal engine mods

Just a "for fun" thread, of course

So...i live in california...meaning there's almost nothing i can do to my car and still pass a SMOG test...what 50 state legal bolt ons do you guys go with, and what internal tricks do you guys do to get some extra ponies? not that i would ever do anything illegal to my car :loser:

am i gonna have to worry about my rear end exploding, or tranni splitting in half? etc etc

i got me a 87 GT

so the best mod you can ever do is find a little border smog shop and give him 50 bucks to pass your car. then you can do anything. my car...will never pass smog, no pump, no cats, luckily im from out of state so i can register it back home, for you...get a hook up. if that dont work, check with a reputable engine shop here and they will tell you how far you can go and still be legal

haha, i got 3.73 in my garage...not sure what i am gonna do with them yet. i also got headers and an x-pipe and a racing bucket seat if your interested. the seat is is good shape, just not my kinda seat, and the headers are in good condition, i just upgraded mine. the x-pipe has cats but is custom made so its not the greatest. let me know

first thing i would do is mass air conversion... the the compucam 2031 50 state legal 519 530 lift cam... port your stock E7 heads. 1.7 rockers... systemax intake (upper and lower) and a 200 shot.... if your a manual go 410's auto go 3.73's also things like 24 lb injectors and mass air and like a 70 or 75 mm throtle body... easy 12's on motor...


I have seen this setup work time and time agian!

machman...how much power do you get from porting stock heads....would it be better just to go aftermarket. gt40 / trickflow / afr etc...

yes and no... I mean you ca gain i would say probably 50 -75 HP on a nice Port job cam and roller rockers..

Put it this way....that setup up there with the cam and everything..... I have seen go 12.40's on motor and with the 200 shot go 10.40's! Full wieght 3100 pound HATCH

I have been looking at PAW catalog.... they have a 327 stoker kit with forged pistons H beam rods and forged steel crank, with rings and bearings for like 800 bucks.....

ya, tried finding a couple of those...around here their few and far between...everyones scared of getting popped by the popo

what you mean you cant hook up. i have a decently modded car with almost all boltons possible and then some. with 4.10s and decent foot control i have learned how to stick better than i could have immagined. my car actually launches really hard now, even on shitty tires

if i try and launch over 2.5k the tires feel like im on a slip 'n' slide. . .

a grand? thats pathetic. not too much torque, not enough tire. theres a big difference, cuz you can never have too much torque

thats why i was inquiring about fatty rims, cuz real drag racers launch above 3k, not 1.5 tops

i launch mine at 1500 and ease into first and punch second and i have never been beaten off the line....ever. i win at the line.

now think if you could get the car to stick at 3 grand instead of launching at 1 grand. u can fly through the gears that much faster...60' is the most important part of drag racing, so it makes sense to launch higher
