Hey Y'all,

Has the club ever been involved with the annual Coronado Speed Festival? I'm positive most know all about it, but for those who dont.....
This years event will be September 27-28, it happens at Naval air station north island. I have researched a point of contact for the event producer, I would like to bring it up at wedsndays meeting.
Would y'all be interested in setting up as a club at the event? It is pretty far off but we will need to contact them soon to get us a slot.

All, here is the application for SpeedFestival..

The event entry is by invitation only and is run for and by owners of "vintage" racing cars. It happens on North Island because a portion of the proceeds goes to Navy causes. Admission is like $20.00 a day. The first two times I went as a paying customer, and to get to the point where you could buy a ticket, it was like getting on a commercial airline flight. Empty your pockets in a tray, all your baggage - including camera cases - inspected, etc. Then a half-mile walk to the gate.

Last time I went as part of a Mustang club group, into the Meguiar's "Corral"; nothing but green lights and wave-bys to preferred parking. The only way to go.

Aside from the racing (which hasn't been that great - many of these these are rare, and expensive cars), there is almost always someone of importance on scene. One year I got Phil Hill's autograph* on a Riverside International Raceway t-shirt. Year before last Bob Bondurant** signed a copy of his then-new book. The Shelby trailer is usually there flogging the latest of their wares. If you need any safety equipment or car care products, buy there and save the state tax.

You can wander through the paddock and ask questions of owners and drivers, see the cars up close. And there are some seriously exotic cars in vendor alley and in the car club's staked-out areas.

Worth the effort, no doubt; I missed it last year only because I was in Terlingua that weekend.

* Phil Hill was the first American World Driving Champion, for Ferrari in 1961. Still the only Amercan-born WDC (Mario Andretti was American, but born in Italy).

** Bob Bondurant, owner/operator of the eponymous Performance Driving Schools, scored the critical points that gave Shelby and his Daytona Cobras the World Sports Car championship over Ferrari, 1965.

That application is for the car show..........not the car corrall.

If you chooose to be in the car show, there is a fee and you will not be parked with the rest of Wickedstangs. They will park you by class and such.

The car corrall is where we will be parking together and it is free.
