so im at a crossroads. i get my srb in a few weeks and im thinking of doing a little more to the pony. or possibly saying goodbye after about 4 years of ownership. the car has 108k, the motor has about 70k, and the transmission just got rebuilt. everyones seen it ive already got an assortment of terminator/saleen parts, shaved badges and black bullits, etc. suspension is well off for me, maybe need a panhard and a torque arm and i would be content. basically everything but the longblock has been upgraded.

so im debating buying an mmr 5.1 stroker, blower cams and getting my heads ported, switching to a cobra tank and dual ford gt pumps then cranking the boost up to about 14 lbs. emerson thinks this should put me comfortably into the 500s. im hoping for 550rwhp and he says it should make it. this will come with a 7-8k price tag all said and done.

the question is do i do it? or do i get rid of the pony and possibly get into an M3, maybe just a 3 or 5 series beamer. on that note, im not going to post everything i have done, but those of you that know, whats a fair asking price if i was going to get rid of the mustang?

any inputs appreciated, im seriously torn

because ive already got an assload of money into this car. dont want a terminator at this point. besides, i can get 650 out of this all the same.

if you already got the money in it may as well finish it, im gonna do the same thing in this coming fall heads cams and MMR short block and 15-18 lbs of boost...

yeah ends up i have to go to a 2.6 to push more than 14lbs. the 2.6 has the ovalized intake vice the small circular intake of the gts. wish i would have just sprung the few extra hundred bucks. if i want to its only 1800 to get the 2.6 headunit. i dunno. either way, 550rwhp with room to grow is enough. if i need more down the road ill upgrade to a 2.6 and spin more boost. the block is 1000hp capable. im shopping around now for a cobra tank.......

this is true you should finish what your start unless you truly want a diff. car

i thought there was a tank for sale in socal stangs you look at it? i was interested in the MMR 950 but seeing how im lookomg for 500-600 horse power may as well save the extra cash buy the 4.6 800 street block and send the heads for a stage 3 port job and get the cams from CMS....

to play devils advocate, no one else sees how much of a money pit a car is once you start getting north of 400hp. i just spent 500 on tires, 650 on a transmission and now i gotta get my gears looked at, that could be north of 500 bucks. between my hood and repainting my bumper thats like another 900 bucks. sometimes im just sick of throwing money at it. so im looking at 3400 for the block, around 2000 for heads and cams, found a cobra tank im hoping to get for 400 bucks. 200 for dual ford gt pumps, then i need a fuel rail which ive seen for around 400 bucks, 60lb injectors 4-500 bucks, a new tune. and of course with all this i plan on finishing out my suspension with a panhard bar and tourqe arm. take all that and then throw in about a thousand bucks for odds and ends. realistacly it will prolly cost around 8k. and then the time bomb of my poor t-5 versus 500+ftlbs of torque starts. then i gotta upgrade to a 6 speed. 3500 bucks. im not gonna add it up, but thats a lot.

i guess it's a matter of researching and collecting parts for the cheapest way to horsepower with out cutting your self short on quality parts....i still have to buy a DD car before i can even rip the engine apart....thats about 3000 grand right there....

if you have another car you can drive and you love modding your mustang then i would say stick with the stang. the beamers are nice but they are nothing like a stang. ive had to drive other cars while i work on mine and by the end of the first day, im ready to be back in my stang so i would stick with it. they can be a money pit but i love them and think they are worth every penny. plus in this market, you wont get anything for it.

i think getting beat up on resale is what makes me worry the most. i could give a **** about driving around in it. i love it, but i been driving my girls scion and i love it. its quiet, its good on gas, its got all kinds of stuff i dont need.lol. its a tough call.

I speak from experience. Down the road, you will hate yourself if you get rid of it. Then you will buy another one and spend even more money. Save yourself the loss. I had a 96 i sold for similiar reasons. I put a ton of money into it. Got a Toyota luxury car. It was nice, quiet, looked good. But life got boring really fast.

Then I went out and bought my 98 Cobra and started all over again. I have owned it for several years now and paid it off over time, and got so many parts I can't count.

Even with the vehicles I own, except for a few parts here and there with the newer ones, my main focus is on my 98 Cobra, because it is paid for. And I can afford to have it down and the parts are cheaper. I love my other cars, but I could always sell them, buy a beater for DD, and keep my Cobra and be just as happy, should life throw a curve ball at me.

Cars are NEVER a good investment. You do it for entertainment value. I feel sorry for those who buy GT500's, get huge payment, dump another 10-15K in them, and try to use it for a DD.

You are already way ahead and if you really like the car. I would recommend just looking for a DD.

My 2 cents

If you are tired of it, stick it in storage for 50 bucks a month and get something else to drive.

That way it is always there whenever you want it back.

If you truely want to sell it, part it out because you will NEVER get what you paid for the mods. Trust me, I know from experience after selling a highly modified offroad truck. I got pennies on the dollar.
