I'm going solid roller :)

Just like the title says. I know I've mentioned to a few people I was going to swap the cam out and that will be a reality here very soon.

The Dyno day that I went to revealed that my valve springs are tired and it's causing loss of hp and alot of instability. Harmonics are starting at about 5100rpm and full blown @ 5600! Major loss of power here.

I'm getting a Custom designed Billet Mechanical Solid Roller cam, new valve springs, timing chain and Solid roller link-bar lifters. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this cam will have over .600 lift and duration may be in the *250's. In a nutshell it will be nasty and sound nasty.

I will be selling my current hydraulic roller set up if anyone is interested. The hydraulic link-bars lifters and the FTI camshaft that is designed for an aggressive street type setup.

The powerband is roughly as follows per my cam card. I will scan and post it later in the sale section.

393-414ci = 2000-6000 rpm
327-347ci = 2400-6500 rpm

How much?

why not replace valve springs and stay with old cam?

Trust me when I say this thing is going to be NASTY. :) Anyway, the cam was ground for an old set up. The major factor for the new cam will be the Transmission and stall spd.

When the old cam was ground it was for a manual transmission that had to have a decent idle, make power to 6000 rpm and like I said was matched for an old combo. Here are the changes that were made since this cam was ground.

Old
75mm maf
75mm T-body
Home made 4" intake pipe
BBK x-pipe w/cats
stock T-5

New
90mm maf w/AFM powerbell
90mm T-body
AFM 4" Powerpipe
BBK off road H-pipe w/dumps
Built C4 w/3000stall

This new cam will likely make the converter stall higher and get me into the 6's on motor.

Not to mention I'm not happy with the tune. :(

Machman: here is the cam card................I'd sell it for $150 shipped. I know it will sell on corral if nobody here wants it.

Will you ever be happy with a tune....LOL. Who is tuning this time?

Probably the dyno shop in Santee. If that doesn't happen I may end up buying an Anderson Ford PMS and doing it myself again. :)

Let me know next time you hit the shop in Santee. I want to come down and meet the guys. I need another tune and would like to talk to them and watch as well.

Bobby how did you determine you valve springs are tired?

Look at the dyno graph. If fuel is not an issue and spark is not an issue the only other thing that can cause that rocky mountain is tired valve springs. Plus if is was fuel or spark it would have likely been more squiggy through out. Notice how once the car gets over 5000 rpm it start acting up due to the springs not being able to handle the load. I never switched valve springs I ran the sztock Eddys, which wasn't the best idea to begin with.

Also, I speak from experience and Emilio will back me up on this..........The Dyno Shop is hands down the most accurate dyno in these parts. The #'s are always consistant. The only reason I didn't have them tune it before is because they didn't tune SCT. They do now. :)

those mountains represent valve float! lol

at least you found this out before dropping a valve.. Are you wanting more power (of course who wouldnt?) the cheaper route would be just replace the valves springs.. you would pick up more power and high RPM.... not trying to argue... trying to look at other ideas!

i wouldnt need the lifters.. was wondering about the rockers... thought you said those were being rplaced to

was looking at your A/F agian... it starts way fat then works it way leaner and leaner... is that a timing issue or just half ass tune?

Yeah maybe you can explain that to Emilio. Anyway, I want this car to be as badass as it can be. I want to smash people on motor at the track. I want to be feared when I pull up at the line.............O.K. enough drama lol!

As it sits right now this cam is a restriction. This car is pretty much track only now even though I CAN drive it on the street. The power and sound of a solid roller is the way to go with this car. When I post the results once this swap is done I think that there will be alot of surprised people.

Termi owners will be mad even after their 3rd pulley swap :)

I would guess 1/2 ass tune. The guy who did it was new at it and the shop is now closed down. Tuning is slim pickens here in San Diego, but I just found out the local Dyno shop is now tuning SCT and I totally trust the owner Mark to tune it.

If I remember correctly it only has like 32* total timing. When I tuned my last combo with the PMS I was able to give it 36*.

Oh yeah duh.........I forgot to mention that the old combo had a TFS R and I swapped it out for the Box. There is an enormous amount of air being pumped compared to the old set up.
