Installed Rpm Air Gap today

Today I replaced my intake manifold. I had an old Holley Street Dominator which is a small single plane intake which actually works fairly decent on a mild 302, but on my 347 I felt it was a little too small so i replaced it with a Edelbrock RPM Air Gap. The install went fairly well except I had to bend the throttle cable bracket quite a bit, which I had my buddy do for me. Its always nice to have a big guy around. It needs some more bending and possibly a bit of cutting but I'll get to that next week sometime. I also relocated my coil to the shock tower. It was originally mounted on the back of the intake near the firewall. Because of this I had to take all the electrical tape off the wiring harness and redo it. I took my time and think it actually turned out really good. Oh I had a hard time getting it to start because I forgot to hook up the vacuum line. lol. Dumb mistake but it took me 5 min and playing with the carb to figure it out.

I used this little swap to teach a friend of mine a little about working on cars. He knows computers really well but not much about cars. I tried to keep him busy doing little things and trying to teach him as much as I could. Its weird teaching someone when I've always worked with someone much more knowledgeable than myself. I enjoyed this alot and he kept saying how much he learned so it was a good day in more than one aspect. Plus his wife is an awesome cook and invited me over for dinner. Her food makes the chow hall look like a month old bug infested microwave dinner.

Anyway now for the fun part. When I took it out for a drive I put it to the floor in first around 2500 and the car immediately got squirely which it used to do but its much easier now. The car pulls alot harder and further into the higher RPM's now. It finally pulls above 5500 like I wanted in the first place. I'm actually kinda bummed that I didn't just buy a Victor Jr. I need to tune the carb a little more but it feels good so far. It hesitates when I stomp on it and that is it.

nice looking looks like you will have more air flow.. with the Edelbrock. Was that Holley Ported?

Emilio the Holley was ported just a little bit by my father a long time ago. Its only got the casting marks cleaned up and just generally cleaned up. Not much. That intake is probably as old as I am. If not its awfully close.

My combo consist of: Dart Pro1 195cc heads (a little too big), around 10-1 compression (not 100% sure. the bottom end was built so long ago my father forgot the specs), A little Lunati cam: Duration@50 227/233, advertised duration 268/276, lift .522/538), Edelbrock 600 carb, oh and its a 347.

I have a bigger roller cam but I need to get some money saved up to buy roller lifters, gaskets, and new pushrods before I can swap it in. That might not happen for awhile. I also want a little bigger carb. the little 600 works great on the street but its not enough at higher Rpm's. I want something in the 650-700 range. The motor is a wrok in progress. I've been trying to do one thing a time since I built it to get it where I wanted it in the first place.

I don't think the heads are too big for a 10:1 347. Just put some N20 on it. :) That's a pretty nice combo you have there. I'll bet with some hook at the track you can cut some very low 8's. Is the new intake port matched to the heads?

What rear gears are you running?
