Mid-Pipes in California.....

sdsubzero4

Ok, I went to JBA today to see about getting an H-pipe. Guess what, I was told that mid-pipes are no longer legal in California since January of this year. Shops cannot sell or install mid-pipes anymore. Have anyone heard of this? This is the first time I heard of it. WTF......!!!!! I'm starting to envy some of you who are moving away from California. I wish I can come along.

WTF is wrong with this state!!!!!!!!

it has always been illegal to install a off road mid pipe by any shop... muffler shops and so on are not suppose to install anything that removes smog equipment...

That's including installing the cat back exhaust, not just O/R. Any mid pipes.

I know that in the past, JBA has been under the microscope by the BAR for that sort of thing because they have a high profile. It's been their policy for a while now that if it doesn't show up on a trailer or flatbed, they won't do anything to the exhaust plumbing that's not smog legal. Hard to blame them...

it's true. IF a shop will do it, it has to be under the table in CASH so they don't have a record of the service on their system.

i have a catted prochamber, but i know that putting that sucker on is illegal. cars now have to have the stock midpipe and air intake during inspection. unless you're running the k&n fipk system, cause that comes with a carb #.

heck i've seen some online shops / ebay stores not even ship midpipes to california. if you want a midpipe in california, it seems you have to get one out of state, or buy one off of someone else.

Yeah I heard about this a little while ago.... It BS! It is illegal now to alter your stock cats. Inc high flow cats. I had plnned to be a good law abiding citizen when I built my car but in light of these new BS rule I think I will be installing an OR H/X pipe instead.

I'm registering in Texas and installing long tubes! F*** this tree hugger Sh**! I am fed up w/ laws that really make no difference to actual emmissions. They just look good to enviro Nazis and so they go w/ it. I have been told that my Cold air intake will not pass smog when the time comes.... Even though it is the intake installed by shelby before I bought the car. So what the hell! I'm doin my car the way I want it. In the words of Braveheart; FREEDOM!!!!! The Ca inviro Nazis took away my Ferret, they are not dictating to me my CAR!!!!

Hold on there... I'm old enough to remember what the air used to look like before new car emissions were brought under control, and every car I have is catted.

But, there's a distinction between effective pollution control and the appearance of effective pollution control.

Preventing somebody from making a modification that has no effect on tailpipe or evaporative emissions isn't effective pollution control. It is, however, far easier to enforce than a more rational law, like turning gross polluters around at the border, or scrapping ancient daily drivers built to outdated emissions standards. Even if NOTHING was done to enforce emissions laws, other than requiring new cars to meet current standards, the air would continue to get cleaner as the older, higher polluting cars drop out of the fleet.

But there's a huge government agency that exists only to enforce those regulations, and it must justify both existence and growth, and since the low-hanging fruit is all picked, they have to go to greater and greater extremes to do so.
