ok guys i know my Mach is supposed to run on premium (91) but ive been cheating most of the time and using regular (87) with gumout octane booster that is supposed to bump the rating up 10 points, is this just as good? and the gumout booster doesn't use alcohol, so is my cheating bad for my baby?

well i've been doing some research on this and those 10 points = +1 oct.
so your actually only running 88 in the mach. so, the answer to your question is yes you are cheating your car. plus 87 slogs up the injectors after a while.

plus the bottle of oct booster cost $4.50-10.00 a bottle. and on average premium cost $.20
more per gallon. and your car holds aprox. 15 gallons so you spend about $3-3.50 more per tank. so your really not saving anything.

yeah, MOST premium fuel cars will run with a lower octane. they just highly recommend using the best you can get. i have a FEW bottles of octane booster just for emergencies. but since gas has basically bottomed out for the time being, i get premium.

My Lightning says "Premium fuel only" and the only time it's had premium in it in 7 1/2 years is the full tank it had when I bought it.

Never once pinged and has run like a scalded cat since day one.

Now the Mustang is a different animal. Pings on Mid-Grade and wants only premium.....or else it gets pissed!

My car likes Shell Premium.

And how many "points" make ONE octaine? 10? 100? 1000?

Nothing but tolulene, paint thinner and mineral spirits.

Ok Guys here is my two cents worth. I talked to bamachips to day about a tune for my car. Most of you that dynoed no my air/fuels was really F-up. Anyway after talking about tunes ect I asked about a 91 tune for here and a 93 for MO. They said that when it comes to new stangs the Oct does not matter with a tune if you go from 91 to 93 the car will adjust its self so there is not really a need for 93 tuning. Now it is bad if you go from say 91 to 87 this will def lean car out ect cause computer is trying to adust its self for the tuning for the oct. Just remember + is good - is bad

so what your saying is i can run a 93 tune on 91 gas?

your car makes good power. you just need to know how to put it to the ground.
but getting it to breath better and a tune will do alot. your catback is more for sound than power. what will help for exaust is a mid-pipe.
