i dont know the name brands that are widely used for the 4.6 but ive personally use

Wiseco coated pistons, Eagle rods. this was in a 4g63 but the engine pounded out 417 at the wheels in an awd car

I'd look at Manley rods and pistons. What displacement are you going with? If you are swapping out the crank then go stroker.

I say turn the crank. have the block checked.. if it has to be bored/ or not buy a set of forged pistons.. recondition the rods and but all new bearings.. you should be at less then a grand easy.. then install aftermarket custom grind cams. and a nice nitrous kit... and your done!

If you're looking to go bullet proof, then you can order an entire block with forged internals at a lower price then a shop will rebuild it for you. With that said you have to decide NOS or Supercharger or both.

Supercharged/Both: Forged crank, forged H-Beam rods and dished pistons that will get you between 9.3 and 9.5 to 1 compression.

NOS: Forged crank, forged H-Beam rods and flat/dome pistons that will get you between 10.5 and 11.0 to 1 compression.

Either way, I'd upgrade the cams and have the valves reconditioned. As for manufacturers: Rods=Eagle Pistons=Mahle, JE Crank: Who cares....just make it forged.

By the way: Throw in a girdle and windage tray while you're at it. The extra $100 is well worth the piece of mind and added benefit.

Good Luck!

order a crate engine. Less hassel that way. I built mine but was drawn out for a couple months piecing the parts together and trying to budget.

get a short block, use your heads just port and polish them and do cams while they're out. Then you can choose your power adder. You'll love the diff.

wow suggesting 9.5:1 for boosted? i'm so used to 8.5:1 on my old talon that 9.5 would be the highest i would possibly go on a street driven car.

Racing is not for the faint of heart, but I might have been a little over the top. I raced a 331 with 12psi of boost at 9.3:1 and it was a monster. If you're afraid of breaking something....buy a Prius.

I can guarantee it was a stroked 2.3 4g63 with forged wiseco coated pistons and forged I beam rods ;) 8.5:1 with a 60 trim FP Red turbo at 12 psi

turbo exploded when i pulled a bone head move and didn't tighten down the filter and it sucked a vaccume hose in. joined the navy 2 months later and parted the car out in the mean time.

Manley Rods (H-Beam) and Mahle Pistons (forged) Kelloge Forged Steel Crank.

Thanks what I have in my setup...and thats what FORD puts in the 03/04 Cobra, 2007+ GT500 and the FORD GT. Then Use good bearings like Clevite or similar have everything balanced and You have a rock solid motor good for 800HP at least.

You DO NOT NEED super low compression, and a 9.5:1 is a very good medium, will make more power than a 8.5:1 car with same amount of boost, and still allow you to run pump gas. I suggest picking up a Sean Hyland book about 4.6's.
