cover any electrical components and the spark plug holes for sure. the best bet is to blow down every thing with compressed air after your done. any water left in the spark plug holes could possibly ground out causing the spark to never make it to the electrodes for combustion
i just leave the engine running and spray it. Just try to stay clear of the plugs and coil packs. Just make sure not to change your plugs before it dries or the water goes straight to the engine. I mean ive drrivin my car in the rain with the hood off. Not that I recomend that, but it didnt hurt mine at the time.
