Race legal at the Q

i want to go but on top of the price of racing i would have to rent a helmet. that totals the night out to like 45 bucks instead of 25 ( which 25 is still an insane price to pay for drag racing on a parking lot with no prep )

lord, gimme your head size, i have a helmet that fits like 6 7-8 and one for 7-1/8 both snell approved arai helmets.

Last Friday I only got in sixteen passes* before they told me I should be running with the top up. I'd made probably sixty or so in this and the previous convertible, all with the top down. Must be some new rule. Odd how it came up after I had a little conflict with one of the "officials" in the staging lanes.

We'll see what develops tomorrow. I really do need sixteen more TestAndTune runs.

*Including one where some idiot ran over an extension cord that pulled the plug on the timeslip printer - in fact, pulled the printers and all cabling and stuff off the table.

The rules have always been the top have to be up if you have a convertible unless you have a roll cage. That's why I was surprise to see they allowed you to run with your top down all these times. I thought "that" was a new rule. But running with the top up has always been required and its not a new rule.

I won't be there. In fact, not sure I will even going to the Q anymore at all, unless it is just to hang out.

I am just tired of all the BS going on out there. I can't even race my vehicles without getting crap from someone there. Just because I have won several times and have a Roush or GT500. The ego's are out of control.

I think I am going to stick with Barona from here on out. Just a little more grown up atmosphere. And people just like racing there.

The street tire track at the Q is so bad lately, it is getting down right dangerous.

OH....and to underline my point

Last weekend. I got yelled at by the Q when I tried to go around the water box on the "street tire" track which was not prepped.

Ok....a slick track which is not prepped and they force you to drive through water on street tires??? Which makes it even more slick. If they knew anything about drag racing, they would know how wrong and dangerous that is.

im going but im just watching this time but last time i was at the q i saw alot og cars get traction even 03 cobra if race on the far track its preped

I looked at the rules, and didn't see the "top-up" section. Wouldn't be the first time I just looked at something and didn't recognize it. Any road, if they ask me to put up the top, I'll do it. Seems to me there wasn't any difference when I used it as a variable running the V6 car.

There is something there in the rules about full-face helmets, too, but I couldn't figure out how to interpret it.

No one ever said anything to me about going around the water-pit on the street-tire course. If they do, it would be wrong, as you say.

My little conflict with the "officials" had to do with getting two differing signals from two different workers. I picked the one I liked, and the other signaller got a little huffy about it. Of course to some it looked as if I jumped the line, and the huffy guy didn't like it when I pointed out there was a particular line-jumper he never seemed to catch. While he was telling me "Oh yes I did", the other line-jumper was busy jumping the line again, right behind him!

I spent a lot of years in racing organizations run and populated by volunteers. It's never perfect, but you can always work in that direction. I think part of the answer is: volunteer yourself, from time to time. Maybe after this Friday's very important TestAndTune I'll try that.

Maybe it should be like the autocross crowd: if you run, you got to work, otherwise, no results.

As far as saying I wouldn't use QualComm RaceLegal, there may be good reasons, but so far the advantages outweigh them for me. Maybe If I ever got serious ... Meantime, it would be cutting off my nose to spite my face.

Good luck with the vounteer stuff out there.

I volunteered once for track set up and prep. I got treated like a criminal doing Coumminty Service even after I told them I took a day off of work.

Maybe things have changed, I haven't volunteered again to find out.

Yeah I have heard horror stories about volunteering down there. I will never race there again with out at least my M.T. ET Streets.

I have to race at the Q tomorrow because the next time it will be at Barona for the Mustangs vs World. I need to get some track time and test out some launch options and work on some bugs. Otherwise, I would avoid the Q like most of yall. I agree, the drama down there is ridiculous and Barona is more of the racing atmosphere I enjoy. Barona racers are serious about their craft and a lot friendlier.
