If you are using them for your truck why dont you use 15's? They are cheaper right and I know you can get a good pair of slicks to fit if that is the route you are going. I am not sure about your truck thought if a 15 will clear disc breaks

Phil, you apparently don't know anything about Lightnings, do you?

I am NOT going to grind my brake calipers down just to get the little extra sidewall on a 15" tire.
16's BARELY fit and the factory spare is a 17". Stock is 18"

Read this:

http://www.f150online.com/forums/lightning/130169-grinding-calipers-fit-15-wheels-lots-pictures.html

I didnt know. The trucks I have been around all have 460 CI, 428 CI, 427 With 40+ on tires usually 3/4 ton to 2 1/2 ton axcels. Instead of D/R or slicks they have Boggers or swampers LOL Kinda blind to the lightnings

I understand.

Lightning have larger brakes than regular F150s of the same year. They have what equates to F250 calipers for the most part and are larger. Since my drag radials are 17s, I am looking for rims and all the stock 17 rims I can find for this truck are 8" wide or less and not really the best width for the DRs. It CAN be done but better with a 9" rim or wider.

So, I have to BUY 17x9s just for ONE race that fit the truck.

Cragar and Unique have a rim called the SOFT 8, a black powdercoated steel wheel in my bolt pattern for about $70 a piece. Not to bad.

If I could go with a smaller rim and taller sidewall and air them down for traction, I would. But since I already have the tires, I'm going with 17" rims.

Congrats on the 8.1 run. Pretty quick!
