While i was on deployment I wrote a couple companies with my mods list and my idea of a bulletproof T-76 turbo'd cobra they all pretty much wrote me back all were thankful for my service and all gave great info these are their responses:

Hellion Power Systems and Turbo Kits:
Mr. Van Patten,

First off, let me thank you on behalf of all of us here at Hellion for serving our country and allowing us to continue this hobby of ours. Also, I'd like to thank you for your interest/compliments regarding our kits, we appreciate it.

Now, regarding the car - I looked over the sheet you attached, and it looks as if you have a great start on your hands. First and foremost as far as engine modifications go, the absolute most important thing to do is to build the bottome end of the engine as strong as possible. This is especially important with a forced induction setup, such as our kit. This will yield the best results, and provide you with the most fun/longevity from the car/kit.

Now, everything besides the shrotblock would be considered secondary, especially on a Cobra. The 4-valve heads that come on thse cars flow incredibly well for a stock head, however, if you spend a little time and money to have them ported, they will flow nearly as much as a 302-based race cylinder head, or over 300 CFM. This kind of head flow is a good thing to have with a forced induction car, as the more air that you can get through the engine, the less boost you have to run in order to make power, which increases longevity.

Any of the mainstream manufacturers/distributors of Mustang parts will be able to help you out with engine performance parts. However, I would reccommend Livernois Motorsports as a great place to get your engine components, as well as your head porting. Also, BOSS 330 Racing is a good company to go to, as well as Modular Depot. Any one of these companies with have the parts for your engine on the shelf, and all of them are about the same in price.

With these Cobra engines, not a lot of engine parts (i.e. camshafts, cylinder head work, etc...) is really required to make a lot of power. You could simply build up the shortblock to handle the power, and probably make 800+ to the tires, no problem.

I hope this helps with your questions, if not, feel free to contact us the next time you get a chance, and we'll be happy to help you out with anything else you need.

Thanks again.

-Craig

D.S.S. Racing:
Dear James :

The list of parts looks good, but I don't know about the T-45 holding up to the new power this combination can make. What I have quoted for you here is a rotating assembly, a Main Support and a 7qt oil pan. We can also build this as a shortblock if you don't have access to a good machine shop that is familiar with the 4.6 engine family. For over 20 years we've been bringing you the highest quality in parts with state of the art machining technology. Countless hours are spent in preparing our engines, parts and kits to meet our customer's high expectations. Purchasing an engine from us allows you to take advantage of our investment in cutting edge CNC technology and 20 plus years of Ford Racing engine building experience. Bottom line: long lasting, record setting performance at a reasonable price. This sort of quality, longevity and performance is only available at D.S.S.!

MMR Modular Mustang Racing:
Hey James, well i would recommend getting our Street Mod 900 Rotating assembly or our Street mod 950 Stroker rotating assembly. also you might want to upgrade the springs in your heads and get ARP head Studs and our head gaskets. i was not able to open your spread sheet, so i could not look at you list, but please let me know if you have any other questions, and i understand about the whole internet thing in the gulf becuase i was in the navy too and it sucks trying to find anything on the web. but please let us know how we can help.

My response:
Chris,

So should I get the short or long block 900? I would like to replace the “top/bottom” end parts to ensure nothing will break under pressure from the T-76 turbo. I’m referencing your company because I’ve heard nothing but good, plus your location isn’t too far from San Diego. Ill copy and paste my modification sheet in this email for you to look at. The stuff in red is stuff I have already purchased and stuff in black is stuff I would like to. I haven’t included prices for engine, tranny, clutch, flywheel because I’m looking for your guidance from MMR and their great products. I really appreciate all your time and input.

their response:
Hey James, well both options are great, but if your heads are in good conditon than there is no reason to buy new ones we can just makes yours better. i think really for what you are trying to do you would be happier with a stroker. i hope this helps if you have any other questions feel free to ask, and from the list the car sounds bad..

this is pretty much the summary email i wrote everyone just worded it differently towards other companis:
To Whom It May Concern:

I am in the military and am currently deployed in Iraq have just recently reenlisted and received a selective reenlistment bonus. I would like to spend a nice chunk of it on a 76mm turbo kit from Hellion for a 1996 Cobra Mustang with approximately 110k miles on it daily driver. I am writing you because my internet is limited and would like some advice. I would like to know what type of engine parts I need to replace to ensure the kit is most effective and least chance of hurting the engine. I know your company has a huge selection of engine upgrades for the engine. I would like to upgrade parts of the engine “top/bottom end”. What products do you recommend to purchase parts to fit my engine? I know people probably write you all the time with questions like this and I apologize. I have read many articles on mustangs with your parts and heard nothing but the best. Attached is a list of things I have thus far on my car in the excel sheet. Red is items I already have and black is to buy list with in the next 9 months. There is no virus or spam attached as this is coming from a military computer. I am looking to order the items recommended towards the end of April once my bonus is deposited. Your time and assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank You

Very Respectfully

Livernois Motorsport:
Mr. Van Patten,

To answer your question regarding the engine parts, I would recommend our 298ci stroker shortblock. You would want our 18cc 8.8:1 Compression shortblock for a turbocharged application, which retails for $4,395.00 + freight. If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me back. It sounds like you’re building quite an impressive vehicle.
