Bullitt enthusiasts, rejoice! The rumors are finally over, and the new 2008 Mustang Bullitt GT is finally roaming the streets of America. The history behind this Mustang is well known among enthusiasts, and has brought forth many questions about its authenticity and historically correct nature.
Unlike the 2001 Bullitt, the ‘08 model has been carefully de-accessorized aesthetically, to better follow the theme of original ‘68 Fastback. The subtle - yet meaningful - changes, really make the Bullitt stand out, and make it exclusive. For starters, the Bullitt comes with a spoiler delete that isn’t reversible, which means you cannot purchase the Bullitt with a spoiler. It should be noted that all Bullitts start as Premium Package GTs, and are then disassembled. The front grill has been changed to a mesh style, with fog light delete along with an emblem delete to further screen the cars appearance. A “Bullitt” billet gasoline cap is just icing on the cake. It rides on 18″ Euro Flanged Bullitt wheels, powder coated in Charcoal Satin finish with the stock GT brake package, although the calipers are painted Grey. The Bullitt for 2008 is only offered in two colors, Highland Green or Black.

*Performance wise, this pony is only slightly ahead of the base GT. Power has been increased from the GT’s 300bhp, to 315bhp and gets an increase of 5lb/ft of torque. Sporting a Ford Racing Power Pack (cold air induction) system, a limited slip rear end with a 3.73 ring and pinion, a high-flow exhaust system, and a short throw shifter means this pony can get the job done with the rest of them.

The interior is very basic, and complimented with billet accents such as a shifter knob, sill plate and pedals, as well as*black sport leather seats. The Bullitt shares the same steering wheel the Shelby GT500 uses, and a nearly identical gauge cluster. Although there isn’t much going on in the cab, it screams exclusive, simply because of its simple additions and attention to detail.*

Ford has got you covered in the suspension department with the new Bullitt. The car sports a Ford Racing Performance Parts handling pack, with the addition of a strut tower brace. It has been specially tuned for “Spirited” driving. I’m sure most people are excited about that! The strut tower brace is actually unique to the Bullitt, in that it is stamped with the information tag for that specific car. The car also comes with its own tire inflation kit, located in the spare tire well. Ford only plans to build 7,000 Bullitts for ‘2008, so keep an eye on those ID tags.

The price for Bullitt Package is $3,310, and once again, can only be had with the Mustang GT Premium Package. Total cost is up to the buyer and his or her choice for additions. If you’re interested in one these pony’s…get in line because they wont last!
