<br />We're all about the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces, but they need some help in the form of new recruits, and that's where good old fashioned recruiting comes in. But it's not like the old days where a couple of uniformed officers attend a job fair in your high school gymnasium. These days, the Air Force is using a pair of radically customized pony cars to get your attention. Mission accomplished. <br /><br />Built in conjunction with <a href="http://www.galpinautosports.com/">Galpin Auto Sports</a> (who else?), the Mustang X-1 and Challenger Vapor land like a bomb when they hit your retinas. The X1 features a full jet cockpit with a single ejector seat placed centrally. The body has been widened at all four corners - the rear by six inches <em>on both sides</em> - to accommodate the largest tires you can buy today. There's a custom onboard A/C unit behind the single seat that's fed by twin NACA ducts where the rear side windows would go, and shifting the 500-hp, nitro-fed V8 comes courtesy of, what else, an actual flight stick.<br /><br />The Challenger Vapor, meanwhile, is so stealth it could sneak up on KITT and make him pee his oil pan. It features an infrared thermal imaging camera combined with a true heads-up display that spans the entire windshield, solid carbon fiber disc wheels, the ability to operate with two mufflers for extra stealth and a command center cockpit with three large LCD screens.<br /><br />You're going to want to explore every inch of these two cars, so check out the galleries below and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/03/u-s-air-force-builds-two-crazy-custom-pony-cars-for-recruiting/">follow the jump</a> for videos of the build and finished products.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/u-s-air-force-mustang-x-1/">U.S. Air Force Mustang X-1</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/u-s-air-force-mustang-x-1/2056635/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/usaf_20090403_026small_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/u-s-air-force-mustang-x-1/2056417/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/x-1_1024x768_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/u-s-air-force-mustang-x-1/2056425/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/x-1_1024x768_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/u-s-air-force-mustang-x-1/2056424/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/x-1_1024x768_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/u-s-air-force-mustang-x-1/2056634/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/usaf_20090403_432small_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/u-s-force-air-challenger-vapor/">U.S Air Force Challenger Vapor</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/u-s-force-air-challenger-vapor/2056492/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/vapor_1440x900_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/u-s-force-air-challenger-vapor/2056604/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/usaf_20090407_632.1small_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/u-s-force-air-challenger-vapor/2056503/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/vapor_1024x768_09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/u-s-force-air-challenger-vapor/2056494/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/vapor_1024x768_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/u-s-force-air-challenger-vapor/2056605/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/06/usaf_20090407_1082small_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/03/u-s-air-force-builds-two-crazy-custom-pony-cars-for-recruiting/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>U.S. Air Force builds two crazy custom pony cars for recruiting</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/03/u-s-air-force-builds-two-crazy-custom-pony-cars-for-recruiting/">U.S. Air Force builds two crazy custom pony cars for recruiting</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.autoblog.com">Autoblog</a> on Wed, 03 Jun 2009 15:02:00 EST. Whats weird is that I have not seen the Air Force put much money into recruiting. I remember when I was on recruiters assitance and I would see the ARMY with some H1 with some chromed out wheels and custom paint and interior to match and some obnoxious sound system to match. It attracted potential recruits to come to the booth and see what the military had to offer.

It works.

The Navy had some nice goodies bags and a shirts and all. The Marine Corps had a pull up bar with some lanyards for anyone who could do over 15 pull-ups and a Marine Corps poster for people who could do over 10 pull ups. The recruiters told them that they did not get anything free in the Corps and everything is earned and it attracted lots of people for the bragging rights to their girlfriends lol. The Air Force was no where to be found and were in no shortage of finding potential airmen.

I say if it cost a few bucks to attract people to join then I am all for it. Unless the chrome plate the F-22 and put dubs on it...... That will be the day I choose to get out lol

Airforce is the best of the 4 branches when it comes to taking care of its own. When was the last time you can remember a Air Force person getting into Trouble in the public eye, But hell its a daily thing for Navy, Marines and Army.

Because all other branches have human beings serving and enjoy a good time. Air Force seems to be a bunch of office, white collar, 9-5 workers. "Stiffs" for a lack of better terms. LOL!

Sorry Air Force Vets. Couldn't resist.

They should have bought the GTO I saw on auction from the XXX movie. It was dirt cheap and had all gizmo's.
