Over on our parent site The Car Connection Rex Roy got the chance to spend a week with a 2010 Ford Mustang V-6 and a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro V-6 so he could compare both vehicles and give us his thoughts on what each had to offer. Rex has made his comparo a two part feature so we will concentrate on the style and powertrain for this post and move on to other areas down the line.

Rex starts off by going through the basics of how each car is setup, the Mustang and Camaro are both front-engine, rear-wheel drive four seat coupes. One of the first knocks on the Camaro is it's not offered in a convertible where the Mustang is but Chevrolet has promised a Camaro Convertible in 2011.

With the basics behind us Rex moves on to compare the style of each vehicle. He starts with the 2010 Mustang saying "The new style is a total hit. The materials and detailing of the design are top flight." As for the 201o Camaro he says the exterior design is just as positive as the Mustang but where he really has issues is with the interior. He says the consensus on the interior for the 2010 Camaro is a total miss. Rex points out how the instruments are squared off and the materials look very cheap along with the low roof line which restricts your view. Lets hope in the near future Chevrolet can give the interior a refresh to settle down some of the critics.

Now to the part most everybody cares about, the powertrain. Both vehicles use a V-6 engine but they are worlds apart. The base 2010 Camaro LS and LT use the 3.6-liter direct-injected V-6 which is rated at 304 horsepower while the 2010 Mustang uses a 4.0-liter motor rated at 210 horsepower. As you can see the edge here definitely goes to the Camaro. Another positve for the Camaro is how fuel efficient it is. The Camaro gets 29 hwy/17 city where the Mustang gets 24 hwy/16 city. Both vehicles offer an automatic transmission and the Camaro offers a six-speed while the Mustang still just offers a 5-speed manual.

That concludes the first part of the comparison.
