Bobby, someone had this issue on their car (06 GT) on another forum.....they disconnected the battery for a few minutes and the code cleared...... Not saying that will work with the 97 but might be worth a try.

Make sure you hold down the brake pedal to bleed off any residual charge in the system.

thats a hard code. when you do this it returns your ecu to the first time it was ever driven. the fuel trims will be set back to factory and the " burn in " process will have to be run again.

Gotcha..... oh well, I was late on this one anyway.....Emilio cleared my check engine light the other day.... Code p0171(I think)
