thanks for all the info. but i am looking for 700-800 hp so would 31's be better.

Unless your headed over 1200 lbs of TQ, the 28 splines are fine. Spend your money on an improved trac lok, aluminum drive shaft and drive shaft loop.

The problem with that 1200 lbs of torque rating is thats under ideal conditions. What about when you have tire hop or something stupid happens. So far i've broke the axle tube loose in an 8.8 with a near stock 302 due to tire hop. Ya thats probably uncommon but still **** happens. I guess i'd rather build for when those times instead of a picture perfect world. With 700-800 hp a VERY well built 8.8 will hold up but if it was me I'd prefer the extra strength. I also beat my car to death every time i'm behind the wheel. A very well built 9in will be about twice as much as an 8.8.

If I was e-5 and going to reenlist while deployed i'd be coming home with over 80 thousand give or take a few so if your job has a that good of an reenlistment bonus just get the 9 in and never worry about it.

IRS FTMFW. theres a guy running high 10s on a stock drive train. the IRS is heavier.....alot heavier but the handleing is superb. but if you do swap it..go with the 8.8, late mod resto has a 8.8 bulletproof kit for like a grand.

but to set up an irs to handle and launch? and level 5 halfshafts go fore about 1k for one side.

8.8 rear with a good diff will hold up in a 10 second ride, i would go with the 31 splines anyways probably last long then 28 if you goona run slicks.

Well if you are going to build an 8.8 make sure you get good axles and diff and weld your axle tubes. Just do it right or you'll be wishing you went with a 9. I've got a friend thats running 9's on a stock 8.8 in a fox with about 650 hp. An 8.8 can and will hold up but I just don't know how long it will.

You could run stock 8.8 if you gonna go with 17" drag radials, i suggest slicks for that kind of power.
