a/f ratio

hay all, let me start by saying this has nothing to do with a mustang!!!LOLOLOL!!!! but i figured id throw it up any way!! its about my harley!! i have this manual tuner on it!! its a fuel programer that is added to the tuner to fine tune the fuel and get some more refined power, i put it on about 4 months ago, but never really tweaked so much as just set the major fuel map and left it alone, but now that im getting deaper into the mods on the bike i need to fine tune the lower rpm band, the dial allows for increasing or decreasing the af ratio by ten points.

so the question is, without a a/f monitor, how do i go about knowing whether the bike is running to rich or too lean at idol??

the symptoms are as follows, the bike picks up like a bat out of hell at about 3 g. but up to that point it stumbles just a bit when i drop the clutch and nail the throttle!!! i attempted to pull the af ration down a bit and the bike cant hold an idol past about -3.5 and the rpm jumps at about +3.5. so what to do what to do??? another note is that normal ridng is fairly un affected, just take off kinda drops the rpm a bit but other than that the major problem is where it counts, acceleration!!!LO!LOLOL!!!

get it tuned on a dyno. thats the only way to make sure its right. if not you will allways be guessing, or you will be satisfied and it will blow up one day when you least expect it.

well that wouldnt be a cheap fix!!! from what the guys at harley were saying theres a way to tell if the bike is running rich or lean, but i dont know what that would be!!! just wondering if anyone has any ideas!!LOLOL!!!

yea thats what i was thinking or maybe carbon emission!!! ya know like when its rich it produces a lot more carbon!!! the exhaust is a two into one into two, but its straight through with no baffles or cats, so that could be it!!! i was thinking about doing just two straight pipes two into two!! but i guesss you got to have that center combining part to keep back pressure up!!! ya know i thought exhaust for a bike would be similar to a car but theres a lot more to it!!! got to keep the same volume of space in the pipes to keep the power other wise you lose power

y dont you just take it by a shop and see if you can use their a/f meter. dante or someone. shouldnt be that hard. other than that i have no idea.

yea i have bn thinking and thinking about it, so i just bought a digital reader!!! kinda like an sct, but it dont actually log anything it just displays stats!! so shes all ready to go now!!!! woopy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

shell be bad ass next time shes on the road,,, im re doin the exhaust the intake and i just got it tuned and put the new fuel map on it!!! so she should be doin real good by the time yall see it next!!! its amazing at how much you can do with some of these bikes without really changin much at all!!

Are you for sure your new datalogging unit will read A/F or Lambda? Most do not, unless you use an analog input and an separate external A/F-Lambda sensor.

If you need to use a A/F meter, I am sure Dante could help ya out for cheap. Heck he may want to schedule an appt. and throw the bike on the dyno since he still needs to do this. It takes a couple small changes, like disconnecting the coupler on the drums and changes some quick parameters, but I know of two other nikes that would come down and get on the dyno the same day...

oh great look what I'm starting another (bike) dyno day already lol... FFS

hells man,,, id love to go down to dantes with some guys and throw our bikes on the dyno!!! let me know more info and well set it up!!! a wicked bike cruiz to dantes!!!!LOLOL!!!! and we could go riding afterwards and see how she feels!!! just let me know man,,,, ill pm you for more info!!
