Vp, good luck with your decisions.
If you plan to stay in, Instructor duty or recruiting duty would be very good for advancement. ONLY IF YOU ARE GOOD AT THEM!!!!! Recruiting can get rough at times and if you are not in the CRF then you dont get the accolades and such......but that will get denied by them. Instructor duty will pin you in competition with the best in your rate all the time. Yes you can stand out, but the odds are not as good to stand out until a couple years after being there. A new DDG would be good if that is what you want to do. I liked the new DDG's. Now I made CPO first time up. Was a 3 year PO2...... but I had a stall while trying to pick up PO1......I stalled while I was at RTC. That duty is your ticket to CPO if you plan to stay in. The advancement of people that push recruits is simply amazing. 1 in 3 that does the job gets selected. That is overall with no regards for the rating. If you have a rate that advances more than another your chances are better. It also stands out more and more every year to the boards.
It is a tough job with alot of hours involved but well worth it, and you actually get to affect the quality of people going to the ships. I did it and would go back any time they would let me. You have to be on top of the game at work everyday though.
If you need more advice let me know I will try to helkp you out.
