another headlight restoration

Well I decided to restore my headlights on my 01' GT, I apologize in advance for not having pictures as my digital camera was stolen.

Materials Used:
2000 grit sandpaper
3M rubbing compound
microfiber cloth (any cloth that will not scratch should work fine)
a little elbow grease

Step 1:
Remove the headlights from the car.
(You can do it with them on your car i just felt it would be easier to do it with them removed)

Step 2:
Using the 2000 grit sandpaper sand the face of your headlight with medium pressure (as to not damage the plastic housing). wipe dust occasionally so you can see what you are doing. repeat as needed.

Step 3:
Using a dry clean section of your cloth apply rubbing compound (about the size of a nickel) to your cloth and rub into the headlight until the face is bright and clear.
repeat the steps as needed for you're level of oxidation

Step 4:
Re-install the headlights and Enjoy clear vision on the road.

I tried this a few weeks back and it didn't work for me???What gives????

I used 2500 Grit Sandpaper (wet)

and rubbing compound. Oxidation came completely off but now they are all hazy (light scratches) everywhere on headlights made it look just as bad :(

you might need to use a coarser grit then work your way to 2500, also your rubbing compound might be gritty and you need water it down some more.
