Well, finished giving the Miller 225 a facelift. New paint and decals.

For Emilio and any other electricians who can pipe in and suggest ideas...

I bought 6 feet of 6 gauge wire (with a ground of course), a 240 volt 50 amp receptacle the matches the plug on the welder, a double gang box and a face plate.

Looking at my fuse panel which has NO open slots for breakers, I've come to the conclusion that I need to pull out some single breakers and install tandems. If I can pull enough singles and replace with tandems, I can open up a slot wide enough for a double wide dual 50 amp 240 volt breaker.

OR

Put in a sub-panel. Not sure which is better.

GT400SC I am not a licensed electrician and would not be able to hook it up for you. But, if it were me I could hook up an extension to your welder and put on a new plug on it to hook it up to the same location as your dryer or stove.. It would be alot easier and more safe.

I thought about that but it presents two problems:

I don't feel like moving the stove out from the wall when I want to weld...and....

Our dryer is gas and runs on 110. There is NO high voltage outlet behind the dryer.

So, I'm back at square one.

Here's my breaker box.

I could tandem the two highlighted in yellow (20 amp) with a single 20 amp tandem breaker. That opens up ONE slot of the two I need. Keep in mind I need two openings adjacent to each other. I could also combine the two highlighted in green although one is 15 amp and the other is 20 amp and just up the 15 to 20 with another 20 amp tandem breaker. This would open up the second space I need. But the spaces wouldn't be adjacent to each other and this would require moving things around up and down to allow the two openings to be one on top of the other.

It's either this, or a sub panel and I don't feel like cutting a big hole in the wall!

The two highlighted in red are both 15 amps but they stradle the power disconnect and I don't know that I can move that.

I would have a pro do it at this point......Could not be that much.

Setup I would use is:

Big breaker Panel=Household stuff.

Small Sub Breaker Panel=Garage only stuff

Benefit is this= Ability to add on in the future to either one because you take the garage stuff out of the big one and do not fill the smaller one.

Piece of mind would be nice since someone else would do it properly.

Just my opinion. I forgot about the licensed contractor part.

I like the make over on the welder for what thats worth -_-

Thanks. It was painted with Rustoleum "Safety Blue" paint which is real close to the stock Miller color. Then I scanned the logo from the owner's manual, cleaned it up and added decals to each side.

I think it came out pretty good!

Also gave the inside a good dusting! cough cough!
