I got to see the huge smoke trail right after the impact. Man my thoughts and prayers go out to the family killed in the house that the jet hit. I knwo the news is saying only three died but trust me there will be four. It sucks he couldnt hold onto it just a little bit longer to avoid hitting civilian houses. I damned sure would not want to live at the beginning or end of any run way. I hate how the faggots get on TV and bitch about the military though when something like this happens. I would like to find the ass wipe with the Tattoo's on his neck and show him why they cant close down Miramar and make it the chargers stadium though. Hell they suck way to bad to get a new stadium anyways. Once again please pray for the family that lost their lives and may they rest in piece.

I dont know why he was flying over that area though. That is not the normal flight nor landing pattern for base. He must have been trying awefull hard to bee line for the base to either a, crash land on military land, or b, was fighting the jet the whole way and had no choice. A little insight on this beloved jet I work on. Yes they have two motors, yes they can fly with one...... The number of things that can go wrong flying with one motor is extremely high. Without the right engine working he looses the ability to normally operate the landing gear, will have no brakes, steering, and puts a huge strain on the hydraulic system powering the flight controls. There are things called switching valves that switch pressure from one system to the other in these events but they have been know to fail and with one engine off and a failure of these valves the jet will crash and crash fast. The pilot will have little to no control over the A/C. I hate to see this kind of thing happen. I thought I would bring you into my little world of day to day stresses. The A/C was not from my squadron by the way so I might not know or have all the detail correct. Add all this together then add the fact that it was a junior aviator trying to land a jet on a carrier at sea, having all these problems and being deverted to land, and the fact that he was single engine.....He had to be a wreck. Please do not judge him before realizing that this kind of things happen and quite honestly alot more than you know!!!!

Whats sad is they dont realize that the pilot easily could have punched out earlier and it could have resulted in alot more lives.......he risked not being able to eject himself in order to try and save people. Great job to a brave Marine for saving an unknown amount of lives due to his actions. He needed about another 100 yards and they would be saying what a great job to him and praising his skills as a military pilot!

A teacher at the elementary school said it was quiet when she saw it then he ejected.....hmmmmmmm and no radio mayday and such......sounds like a loss of power to me. Not much he can do in a falling failed jet......Again well done Marine getting it as far away from schools and people as you could. The one witness said he ejected moments before it hit the ground.

I feel bad for the family thatwas affected. It is unfortunate and I am sure the pilot wished he could have changed what happened.

I dont know if it was a Marine or Navy pilot yet. They have both there. Yeah but if you look at it the other way he was very close to a school too. He was 2 miles from the run way. Our jet has the glide slope of a rock. Without engines or hydraulics the do not fly. They drop out of the sky like a rock.

They said he had reported a mechanical issue and the teacher thought it was odd because his landing gear was down and it was quiet where usually she has to stop teaching when they fly over.....

I am sure even though it was a junior pilot, if he was landing on carriers he has had quite a bit of training already. Hitting a landing strip is nothing compared to a carrier at sea. He was probably aiming for the canyons and fields about 100 yards passed where it hit. He actually put it down at about a 45 degree angle into the ground on a city street. The explosion and fire is what destroyed the houses..... if he had not done that, I cant imagine how many homes it would have taken out on a normal glide......

He has my support until proven otherwise!

Stand tall Marine you did your best!

I heard that the airplane was spinning out right before he ejected too, but that was on the radio, in my car, so i'm not too sure.

Now this is what I got from the news. He was flying with one engine for over an hour and he did go out of normal flight to cut down on the distance. This Marine did all he can to put that crippled plane down and I believe he was either trying to limp back to base or try to find an open area even the freeway to land on.

Like several posts previous,he waited the very last second he can before bailing out and I believe he pointed the jet in a manner to cause the least damage as possible. He will be feeling bad once he learn of the fatality, we don't need the media and the anti-military to place the burden of guilt on the man. He did all he can and he is brave for doing that. Pray for the ones died tragically and pray for the Marine for a quick recovery and offer our support for him.

Yeah I also heard that it was deinately an F-15. I also heard that it was an f-18 but not an F/A -18. There is not a flying f-18. They are all F for fighter, A for Attack 18's whether single or two seated versions. Ther was so many dumb asses just trying to get on the news that it is pathetic. I am still bitter and upset about the whole thing as most of you can tell. It just sucks he couldnt make it another mile and then it would have died down already.

He will be fine. They seem to point at the fact that he did everything he could. Unfortunately it turned out bad.

Did you know that a pilot shrinks 1/4 to 1/2 an inch every time the eject? They are limited to 3 times before they can fly no more. You are getting thrown upward by rockets that react so fast it knocks you out. Image what is going though his mind. Then you got people on the news saying....yeah he seemed out of it... he was calm.... he seemed dazed and confused... That is one ride I would not want to take!!!!!!

The F-15, 16, 125, 18, 196492 stories yeah whatever they dont know what they were looking at....but they did see a plane whether they knew which one it was doesnt really matter. Only accounts that matter are the ones that witnessed it coming in and what it was doing at the time. Those will help in the investigation.

Did you see the article about the mailman that was in the street and the plane was coming right at him.....he ran like hell and was 2 houses away when it hit.....He didnt deliver the rest of the mail because he was shaken up.
