I run autox up here in the Central Valley with the SCCA. Good times to be had for sure. Those damn miatas are quick in the cones though. The last event I was at was a very tight course and all those miata guys we running quicker times than my Z06. On a road course however, they dont stand a chance. Autox is great cheap fun where the biggest bag for the buck is in a good set of race tires.

i agree... raw power won't help as much on autocross tracks. on these your car has to handle tight and be quick. and yes, it's awesome autocrossing.

Ya know I might just go see what its all about also. My car is setup for that more so than a drag strip so it might be interesting. Do you have a link to a website or anything?

I'll be stopping by, I won't be running until I get my re-tune but after that it's game on. I haven't ran there since I had my MR2.

Daniboy, once you run it once you'll be hooked. If for nothing else, you'll get to know exactly how your car will react in different situations which at one time or another could be very helpful when cruising around town and something unpredictable happens.

Don't hesitate to show up and ask questions. These folks are super-dedicated and -helpful, as well as highly skilled and running some sophisticated vehicles.

Well I think I'm going to at least show up and ask some questions and maybe run the next time. I've spent too much money this paycheck to try it on this one.

Went up for about an hour or so today, saw an orange 427R, very clean car. Don't know if they're a member here or not.

One thing I noticed right off the bat, all the cars seemed very quiet. I'm kind of worried if I'll be able to run more than one run because of the Lt's on the car right now. Anyone know if they hold that 93db as gospil when at the events?

They want it quiet because noise complaints could cost them use of the lot. The forums give some indication that gross offenders get immediate warnings and an opportunity to improve noise level. Near-limits get warnings. There are a lot of things that determine what the meters read. My observation is they set up the monitors in very "friendly" locations; that is to say, not where most exhausts are loudest. I was taking the readings at one event where a fast, loud car would pass through the measuring zone well within limits, but when it accelerated on another part of the course, it was over the top.

Some racers (well, one that I actually saw) have rotating tips on their exhausts, and once they see where the meter is set up, turn the exhaust exit away from the location.

Did you see the Sprite with a rotary motor and the exhaust sticking up in the air? He's pretty quiet, and almost always fastest time of the day.

In summary, yes, they are serious about the noise; you can't ignore that, but there's no way to know if you exceed limits without trying it.
