Our Christmas tradition comes from the Silver War. One of my Gradfather's uncles returned home from the Civil War on Christmas Day due to a critical wound. He survived his injury. To celebrate his return they cooked his favorite foods, barbeque pork and oyster stew. Since that day, my family has always served those dishes for Christmas Eve.
