SO, there i was...laying in my rack at about midnight watching a movie of undisclosed nature whem BAM BANG BOOM. boat was shaking like crazy. everyone got up all confused and of course had to see what was going on. the weird part was nothing was saiid over the 1MC. ive hit whales before and this was much more violent. we went up to the boat valley and had a smoke asking everyone what the hell was going on. nobody knew. still nothing on the 1MC. the boat was canted sideways like the titanic about the sink and they werent telling us ****. well, finally they inform us the we had been hit by a submarine that wasnt supposed to be there. our boat lost 15k+ gallons of fuel, and we have a huge hole in the boat which as of this morning made us take on 120, 000 gallons of water. the boat is at a 3 degree tilt on its side and were limping along to the next place

has anyone ever heard of this happening....cause its a first to me....

i got in a ****ing crash on a ship....how cool is that

I think I know where you'll be going to do the repair. It should be nice there now. Make sure you go to the gold sulk and get some nice things for the wife. LOL!

But, the sub CO may be looking for a new career and whoever was the OOD on at that time. Especially the New Orleans being a new boat. The CO of your boat should be ok, can't avoid something they can't see.

But that is the crappiest place to have this happen. The Strait is freaking dangerous.

OK so since I kind of know how this happens.......

Basically, a big ship going over top of a small submarine in shallow water will cause the sub to be sucked up to the surface.....therefore it hits the underside of the big ship. It usually happens with big tankers and such. This happened a few years back in the same area but with a supertanker..... It is all due to physics. The sub loses its ability to stay under with the disturbance above it and because of the depth they have to be shallow to start with. BJ, beware of what you put out on the net though as there are opsec rules against stuff like this. I dont want you to get in trouble. If it wasnt put out to CNN AP or the news in the official message, dont send it out on the net.....I am sure they will be watching what is going on from that ship. Just a thought.

Glad to hear everything is good for you and no injuries.....

Well the Sub SONAR Team cant do anything about it. They can see the contact is there, but it DOES NOT MATTER! The sub gets sucked up into the other ship. Sonar will not stop that from happening. It only happens if the water depth and the position of the sub and ship are just right.....all condirtions have to exist in order to have the sub sucked to the surface......

Just as an idea, it is like when you are doing an unrep, if you get within a certain distance, the ship get sucked together no matter what you do about it. That distance will vary based on size of the ships, speed, sea state, and sea direction......I am sure VP can elaborate on that a bit. The same effect worked to cause that situation, except underwater not on top of the water.

okay, as far as opsec....we were river city one til they released a message, then they said we could talk about it. just cant give up opperational details. but im not sure about sucking it up under us. we t-boned it and rolled it over. and it shouldnt have even been where it was tho.....oh well. everyone is okay. i would just hate to be the dude that was driving that sub in the wrong place at the wrong time...good story to tell tho
