The 1970 Boss 302 Mustang is highly sought after among collector car circles for both its rarity and poise. The Boss name is legendary, solidifying itself as a contender in the tight-fought races of the early Trans Am races. Many of these cars were raced by reckless owners, as one might expect from a factory-ready racer, and forty years later most have undergone many restorations and rebuilds just to maintain road-worthiness.
But not this pristine, un-restored example found on eBay.
With just 16,891 miles on the odometer, this car never needed a major rebuild or restoration because it was never driven enough. It came equipped with the optional Drag Pack, which added a 4.30:1 Detroit Locker rear end for serious drag racing. This package also added a heavy-duty battery, rear spoiler, tinted windows, tachometer, deluxe clock, and sport deck rear seat. This car is mint, and was owned by one person for 35 years before being sold.
If you’re one of those collectors who needs every last bit, fret not - because the original tires, wheels, and dead OEM battery have been kept in plastic bags all these years. Everything else on the car is original, from the floor mats to the exhaust to the accessory belts on the engine. Even the interior is in mint condition, so expect to pay mint condition prices. The Buy It Now price is $165,000, which is a big appreciation on a car that originally sold for around $3,720 - but there were only about 7,000 such examples of the car produced.
The Boss Mustang could run the quarter mile in mid-14’s with a seriously underrated engine horsepower of 290 (more like 350). This un-restored Boss is like a time capsule, an important artifact that should be preserved for future generations. They just don’t make them like this anymore.
