I'm considering get an off road h pipe, but i have a few questions. right now i have a catted x pipe, but i want that muscle car sound. So, you guys with off road cars, how do you get around smog, and the police looking for you?

and no, i don't have any out of state plates :(

There is not the benefit of running off road cat-less x/h-pipe like there use to be.

There use to be no really well made cats that were reasonably priced.

Now days, the high flow cats are almost as good as not have them at all. So, with the laws being so strict, IMHO it is not worth it.

Which X pipe do you have now?

Get the high flow catted bassani. Think it still passes and even if it didnt off road stinks of fuel, sounds horrible and loose TQ ever so slightly.

i agree with the first few. keep the stock one, and just put it on for smog tests every few years. make sure to get the 02 sensor wires so you dnt throw a check engine light and blow your motor. that what i did....lol

so this leaves it to personal choice...

Louder car with minimal gains for a Pain in the ass install...

or leave it as is... you lose nothing but a " sound " modification.

That is all H-pipes and X-pipes are. Just the different sound. Torque/HP gains are minimal. 2 HP at most, if even that. Its more preference to the sound. Deep raspy sound for H-pipes or Higher pitch sound for the X-pipes.

not always tho....look at your car gufi....4 cats and 2 resonaters....you may notice any gains yet, but immagine if you car had more mods done to it. there would be a much bigger difference. exhaust in the s197 is different...they already flow great. but the older cars benifit from 2.5" pipes with high flow or no cats

my car i felt a gain.

He however will not. he already has a Catted X pipe, moving to a non catted H or X pipe will result in no gain for him.

I just got rid of the cats in mine. I can't believe the difference in the sound. They can cut the cats out so that you can put them back on with the H-pipe for smog

dude, ive driven mine for four years. just keep your old one to put on for smog.
+1 jeez easy peasy i went from stock to BBK O/r X-pipe my car is loud as hell and i had SLP LM1 on there then SLP Power flo(after fix it ticket) then due to ride height the Powerflo got ebat to **** then went to super 40 flowmaster car was still loud not a single problem. just make sure you gett he O2 sensor trickers even though mine failed after 2 weeks and i drove the car around for 2 years and raced with no problems then i got the SCT xcal 3 and tuned out the O2's no more check engine light

remove H pipe, install stock, go smog, return install offroad, head to track.
or just normal driving

i personally though x-pipe was one of my easiest installations out of all my mods

dont know about the felt a gain but heard a gain is more like it

or... do what i did and register out of state... :p
i did this as well but had my stocker ready in case i got pulled over and challenged for smog because the state trooper that pulled me over for no front license plates and tinted tails in January said it doesnt matter if your car is registered out of state if the police have suspicion of illegal smog they can make you get smogged since you are driving the car in the state of CA

no kidding
