my personal best was approx 155mph.lol. in the car.
in the slowbra i hit 157 :)
in the red sled i hit 173
but then youd def have to figure a way to register out of state!!!
yeah safe bet just buy the pipe you want and save the stocker for smog it takes like 15 mint o swap out easy peasy like mav said 8 bolts 4 up from and 4 in the back. just be advised you wont see much performance gain if any just personnel preference and sound. xpipe is more raspy

registering outta state isnt too hard.. change your state of rez. for a few weeks.. roadtrip up to that state.. lets say your 'rents live there.. reg. well, thats how i did it

but in the end keep the stocker because they can make you smog even if you car is registered out of state if they have suspicion of illegal exhaust.

I'm not to worried about driving with no cats, out of state plates, plus I'll only be here for another month.

Wow...this is one of the longest technical threads I have seen on here.

I know the cats are something simple, easy to reach, and make a difference in how you feel about your car (ie sound). But in the real world, unless you added long tube headers, a power adder, such as a supercharger/turbo, they really aren't worth removing or the hassle to "cut them out". Seriously, spend your time and money on something that makes a difference. I am talking about the CATS. A good high flowing catted X/H pipe does make a difference on pre-2005. But removing the CATS on top of that??? Nahh!

And cops here DO look. I have been pulled over twice with my 98 and they inspected to make sure they were there with a mirror. $300+ dollar ticket. I got pulled over because of just my exhaust (I have a full 3 inch with cats). And if they really don't like you, they can inpound your car on the spot.

Just not worth it.

yeah cops do frown on it but climb under the car with a pipe cutter or spend money.. it depends on if you want performance or just bang for the buck. in this case, free. just a bit risky when them cops get frisky

both my cars registered in oregon. but like pilot said i basically had the same troubles with my 96 they just talked to me because the guy had a 98 and was cool. but he knew heheh at least he kept telling me what he thought he knew.. "if you were to pop your hood right now you would be getting towed" sir its actually pretty stock under there :) is what i kept telling him.. suspension is where my moneys went and tranny d/s etc

haha well.. what cops know or think they know are usually two diff things. in your case, he knew damn well but had a bit of stangspect for ya. lucky dog. i got a fixit ticket for my exhaust and said screw that and paid the fine ugh

he still hit me on no front license plate (because he knew oregon requires one) and tinted tail lights

they can keep giving me tickets for the front license plate. ive since filled those stock holes. car looks better without it and my front headlight covers get me in trouble too but i rarely drive at night so....? LAME :thefinger:
