...got the mach dyno-tuned...

yup, headed to fresno performance today to get the mach dyno-tuned. before heading there, i knew the mach was in a bit of a bad shape... but didn't know how bad it was until i took it there. now, remember... i ran a 13.567 @ 109 with my mach in horrible condition

- misfiring
- pinging
- bad tires
- bad tune
- not running on all 8
- bad plugs
- bad knock sensor taking away 8 degrees of timing

i don't know how, but i did. i also made 274 horsepower with all of that going on.

today, when nate put it on the dyno, he discovered the bolded and fixed all of them (mostly due to my plugs), except the red. now, today wasn't the best of all days to try and do dyno pulls... last pull it was 105* and intake temps were about 130*... but even though, my mach put up some good numbers for an auto. better yet, it runs a HELLUVA lot better, so i can only speculate how that will translate to the track... seeing as i also now have a decent set of tires to run with.

to explain my final numbers, nate basically turned my knock sensors off and tuned my car the way he would a cobra (no knock sensors, 32v motor). the tune he gave me was on the very safe side. i had one pull where i made 293 hp and 316 lb/tq. but that was an unsafe tune (detonation).

i had the option of getting my knock sensor fixed, but as i'm low on funds right now, i trusted nate's ability to tune cars with no knock sensors (being he tuned his own cobra and other cars without knock sensors). final numbers / dyno sheet:

2004mach1dyno.jpg

287.01 hp / 307.69 tq on a safe tune with no misfire, pinging, and most importantly no knocking. that was important to me as he did turn my knock sensors off. he also firmed up my shift pressure a bit and changed my shift point to 6300rpms. thank you, now the mach stays in the power curve more and doesn't short shift me (did on old tune), so i now have some top end pull.

all in all, it was a good day. i hit the 290 mark like i wanted to, but not safely. on a cooler day (read: not 105*), i probably could pull off a 29xhp dyno pull. but to fix nearly everything that was wrong with my mach and have it still pull that strong on such a bleh day... awesome.

Congrats on the numbers. I bet your happy to have it running well again.

that's the best part for me, it's running well. the added hp / tq was a bonus. it may be a bit on the lower side for the mods i have done (jlt ram air intake, mac catted prochamber, and slp lmII catback... basically full exhaust)... but it's on the safe side. and with the conditions they were by the time nate did the final pull, we basically knew on a better day / conditions the numbers would've also been better.

you know we should have a post of available days for cv wicked stangs members. lol!

it was nothing really exciting. basically watching nate find all the things wrong with my mach and attempting to solve them to get the best possible numbers... in 100+ degree temperatures.

but, if you want to know how it felt... just jump in a sauna and watch a tuning video while you're in there. same effect.

though i did see scott's cobra and it's all pretty much put back together. just some finalizing as they told me they keep going back and forth.

nice digits

thanks... :)

what are mach 1s rated at from ford? numbers sound low. good numbers but i thought they where rated at like 330?

http://media.ford.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=11516

just says 300+, but i'm thinking 310 at the flywheel. and i'm betting that manuals make more than autos.

from mach1registry:

Horsepower @ rpm 305 @ 6000
Torque lb.-ft. @ rpm 320 @ 4250

Good numbers Jay. I too would have gone and strapped the Vette down to the rollers. Oh well, maybe when Dustin or Joe are ready we can go.

I'm probably around 380 or so

most likely, but you never know. i did call my mach's dyno numbers and 1/4 mile time. when i first got it dynoed, i called 275hp and it was 274.xx, very close. today i called 290hp, and if the weather was better, i woulda gotten that on a non-aggressive tune.

nate suggested gears and a stall for my car and it'd be solid 12.5's all day. right now, i'm hoping low 13's, high 12's. from just accelerating from a stop (not launching), it feels like i'd do 13.8ish - 13.7ish... but we all have ass dyno's, and getting that time slip is sometimes humbling.

guess we'll see next test and tune...

p.s.

i'm leaving your 5.0 behind and VERY SLOWLY closing the gap on your z06... though i feel that i'll need at least 1 power adder before i give you a good run in the 1/4 against your z.

what was your peak tq at? the stall convertor would be my next choice but if you got the cash i would do both at the same time, danny picked about a 1/2 sec with his 4.30's...

peak tq with my unaggressive tune was 307.69... though on a good day, i'm thinking it'll be around 312-316.

and yeah, stall and gears are my next two things after my coilover kit. though i may not go as steep as 4.30's. i'm thinking 3.90's will be tops for me.

if your gonna do 3.90's may as well do 4.10's it's not gonna be much more rpm then that, what rpm was the peak tq at?

even if rated at 330, he still has good numbers. they are rated at 305, and with an auto is losing probably 18% in the drivetrain. that would put him around
250. so putting him at 287 rwhp put his motor closer to 350

I do have an extra NOS kit laying around with your name on it
